That wasn't true then, and it isn't true now.

"America, founded on the evils of slavery, genocide and the violent exploitation of the working class, is a country defined by historical amnesia. The popular historical narrative is a celebration of the fictional virtues of white supremacy. The relentless optimism and reveling in supposed national virtues obscure truth. Nuance, complexity and moral ambiguity, along with accepting responsibility for the holocausts and genocides carried out by slaveholders, white settlers and capitalists, have never fit with America’s triumphalism. “The illusions of eternal strength and health, and of the essential goodness of people—they were the illusions of a nation, the lies of generations of frontier mothers,” F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote."

"The essential American soul is hard, isolate, stoic, and a killer".

One quote claims America is a killer, the other that America was a killer, but it is erased in mythology and replaced with "illusions of... the essential goodness of people".  Other than they are both taking a swipe at America, they are not saying the same thing.

The killing was a lot fresher when DHLawrence was around, sunny jim.

You're so cute when you state assumptions and treat them as facts.

Trump's ranting monologue was pretty bizarre.  Something is definitely wrong with this guy.

It amazes me how anyone can be conned by Trump.  If he was just some guy that went up to speak to a crowd and I was there to see it, I would feel embarrassed for him.  We have to stop breeding so many morons.

I like it when Donald slurs and whispers random imaginary statistics. Fills me with patriotic confidence in U.S. leadership.

Anyone watch WW2 in color on Netflix? Just finished the series, so well done. The parallels between Trump and Hitler are striking.

Dude, he used to keep a book of Hitlers speeches in his night table.

https://washingtonmonthly.com/magazine/april-may-june-2019/how-trump-could-lose-the-election-and-remain-president/

Trump never mentioned:

+ 50 million US citizens with no medical coverage

+ 46% of bankruptcies are due to medical costs

+ 40 million in poverty and 18 million in extreme poverty

+ 25% of Indigenous people live in poverty

+ Average income of white families is 7 times higher than that of the average black family

+ 987 people in the USA were killed by police in 2017 and 23% were black

+ 69,550 migrant children were separated from parents –perhaps forever- and held in cages (2019) constituting a crime against humanity

+ The unprecedented decline over the past 3 years in life expectancy in the USA.

I have a hard time believing that his mind won't be mush by 2024, but a boy can dream.  Washing down pills and KFC with a Coke is not a recipe for longevity.

What is arguably even more surprising is the reaction of human rights organizations to the bloody coup in Chile. Whyte acknowledges that Naomi Klein covered much of this ground in “The Shock Doctrine,” where she details how Amnesty International obscured the relationship between neoliberal “shock therapy” and political violence. Characterizing the Southern Cone as a “laboratory” for both neoliberalism and grassroots human rights activism, Klein argued that, in its commitment to impartiality, Amnesty occluded the reasons for the torture and killing, and thereby “helped the Chicago School ideology to escape from its first bloody laboratory virtually unscathed.” While Whyte concurs with Klein’s assessment, she has a slightly different point to make.............
