First ride for the eldest kid on the BFeMax this morning so as promised…

Unsurprisingly feels loads bigger than previous bike but overall he’s pretty stoked.

I just discovered the term “down country”.  I guess it’s lighter weight and less travel but slack geo as well.  For example norco optic.  I’ve probably been living under a rock and missed the thing by a couple years now.

Any hard tails that would be considered “down country?”

Now that I think of it I suppose almost any hard tail with slack hta etc could be considered “down country “ if it’s not too heavy?

I wouldn't get too hung up on down country.  Thought of by many as a synical marketing attempt to shoehorn another new category of bikes between xc and trail.  Basically an aggressive xc bike.  Not sure I could tell the difference personally.

It was peddled by Mike Levy at Pinkbike (but apparently someone at Rocky Mountain thought of it years ago).

Levy was half jokingly pushing it and it stuck.  For me it's just a short travel trail bike.  But then I describe enduro bikes as long travel trail bikes.

Hardtails are hardtails and impervious to marketing wankery.

I would probably prefer an “up enduro” bike anyway.

I fitted flat bars on the Scrambler, I think it's an updownhill bike now.

M9000 XTR shifter + M5100 11-speed Deore for min/max. And I found out Shimano makes Ultegra flat-bar cable brake levers! The trails are soaked round here but I got her out for two mixed surface rides, and she rips.

There’s some really nice looking bikes on here!

Mine is now a bit less pretty as my fear of more broken digits (I’m a bassist) has finally coaxed me into fitting handguards. The Moxie also now has bigger discs for easier wheel / parts swaps with my Levo. If it wasn’t for the lack of gears this would be a fully enduro hardtail!

Moxie with huge discs

It was one of those rides where the mud doesn’t stick to your tyres but instead coats the rider from head to toe!

First time boaster here, thanks for having me.

My new build seemed worthy of a post in this all-time thread. Hand polished cranks and dropper.

The world needs more Silver droppers.

And here’s my ride or die, we’ll never part ways.

This is a dreamy looking pony!

Stanmer Tea Rooms in Brighton? I miss those trails. Used to live in Hurst but now in NZ and missing British slop…

I'm liking all the silver, that dropper is mint.  The Smooth Moves look great - I have my eye on a pair.

Where are you in NZ (i'm an ex JAFA but have been living in UK since 2000).  There's nowt to miss about the British slop - it's getting to that time of the year where I'm over it.

I've added a splash of colour to the Solaris.

Smooth moves feel pretty nice. If I was doing this again I’d probably polish a pair of the Stooge Moto bars, I feel like the sweep sits better and doesn’t impact reach quite as much.but I’m only one ride in, so I’ll give them some more time. Andy needs to make a polished option…

We’re now down in Wanaka, there’s little grip in this alpine desert, but used to be near Rotorua.

Give it a month and you’ll be right, they’ll be tackiness in the soil. Where in UK is home?
