Gorilla Tape or slit tube - Which Ghetto Tubeless Method?

As the title says:

I'm going to be going tubeless for the first time (yeah, late to that bandwagon).

I've read a lot about the gorilla tape method as well as the slit/trimmed tube method. Do any of you have experiences to suggest one is better than the other?

I'll be setting up two wheelsets:
- 26" Transition 32 rims
- 27.5" Light Bicycle Hookless rims

I will be running TR or 2Bliss or whatever tires. I have no desire to use UST equipment. I will run Stan's sealant.

Which method should I use?

Cheers,
Cam

Gorilla tape. If you have problems airing up, use two layers of tape.

Debate? Bikes are made for riding not pushing.

Jared Graves mechanic still uses split tube, thinking I might go that way on my new set of Pacenti Tl28 wheels.

Why? Because Graves.

I've never really understood the point of the split tube method… Gorilla tape doesn't really seem like a "ghetto" method, more like a different way to do what a bunch of other systems do: tape, tire, sealant.

Ride, don't slide.

Yeah. I probably shouldn't have joined gorilla tape with "ghetto". It's just an affordable rim tape.

So: Gorilla Tape or Ghetto Tubeless?

Fuck Graves. You gunna start bitching about races you win being too hard?

If you gotta muscle a tire on with some levers, the gorilla method has no risk of a hole in a tube or Stan's Rim strip.

Gorilla method is slightly more expensive, than splitting tubes, but how much do remove able Presta tubes go for?

Buy the full width gorilla tape and split in half to save more.

Why slag free swag?

ummm, as your doctor i recommend against riding with a scaphoid fracture.

Gorilla Tape worked great for me on my first and current tubeless setup.
Next time I will buy 1 inch wide roll instead thou..

Both work fine but the split tube method has a better bond. Although it does add a little bit of rotational weight, I don't think that's much of a concern with those rims.

another vote for 1" gorilla tape. cheap, effective, [HTML_REMOVED] easy.

1" gorilla tape is like $2 at Home Depot and does 4 29" rims. .50cents a wheel seems damn cheap.

I did a set of WTB Laser disc rims with Gorilla tape.

For the valves I just chopped a them out of a used tube.

The rims sealed up perfect, no issues with my extra ghetto valves sources from tubes.

I still think there might be something to the split tube adding just a touch of extra rubber to the rim lip that might save a few flats.

In the grand scheme of things it would cost less than $20 to try them both and see what you like.

It depends entirely on what tires you are using. If you're using tubeless-ready tires with a nice fat rubbery UST bead, then Gorilla tape is better. If you're using a non-TR tire, then you'll probably need a rim strip to get a good seal, like Lowcard says.

WTB Frequency i23 rim, 650b NEW - $40

Been using the split tube method for a few years now. Not one burp or flat. If it isn't broke….

I used the gorrilla tape on Spank rims with Specialized tires…burped all the time, HATED it.

Went to the split tube method on my chinese carbon rims with specialized tires and have not burped once and I am riding way harder and with lower pressure.

You make the call…
