Anyone Ride Fat Bikes?

I was looking at this bike a few weeks ago at the LBS and it seems a hidden gem. Half way between fatbike and 29er. Run some slighlty smaller tires than the stock 29 x 3.0's and I'd never have to worry about mud clearance (an insurmountable problem where I live) again.
Also, after a few test rides I'm sold on the concept of fully rigid. Fun!! On a 29er! ;)

I love everything about the Krampus and ECR except for the Knard tires themselves, which don't quite deliver as much traction I had hoped for considering the massive contact patch. Here's hoping a 3rd-party tire manufacturer steps up to the plate with a nicer compound and casing!

Oh yeah, we've got the Salsa Beargrease Carbon in stock now, and I think it's my favourite bike in the shop.

Two of our Mukluk clients made the news this morning:

That's my buddy RJ and his friend Frank. They are training for the 1000 mile Iditarod fat bike race.

This weekend was dedicated to training pushing their bikes, hence not actually riding them much. They are pretty hardcore and definitely not 'basking in the attention'.

They've been a pleasure to work with, and we should have their frame bags in stock this week! ;)

There are a few of them scattered around it seems. Followed a guy on one of the new Norco fatbikes down Bobsled on Saturday. Was curious to know how he liked it but I figured he got that kind of question a lot so I thought I'd just leave him to his riding.

Being cheap is OK. Being a clueless sanctimonious condescending douchebag is just Vlad's MO.

I agree with his assessment that fat bikes can't be ridden in all conditions, but I will disagree on his viewpoint of how slow and awkward they are. I ride mine all winter and into the spring on some pretty techy trails and I find I have more fun on my fatty sometimes than on oh, say my Intense Carbine. I wouldn't do 5 foot drops on it, but for most riding they can be a lot of fun.

I have seen a lot of Fat Bikes ripping around my local trails and the web this winter. How many NSMBer's have Fat Bikes of have ridden one?

I have owned a Surly Pugsley for 5yrs+ now:

I've done lots of snow and sand biking on it as well as some dirt touring.

I got a Surly Krampus [29 x 3"] last March and have used it mostly for dirt touring so far.

They are both a lot of fun.

The Krampus is more versatile, but the Pugsley is the only answer in my fleet to really soft snow or sand.

Based on the moniker of "Angry Singlespeeder" the guy would appear to make his living from being a journalistic retro-grouch. I take his articles with a grain of salt.

My fat bike is my winter anti-depression, stay fit and out of the hospital tool and happens to be perfect fit for my neck of the woods. What ever happened to just simply acknowledging that its another way to get out there and enjoy our sport?

So other than BikeCo in Pemberton, does anyone else in BC rent fat bikes? (Rented there last weekend.)

(I know someone in Winthrop Washington does, but the winter route to get there is almost 6 hrs according to Google. When Hwy 20 is open in the summer, it is 4 hours.)
