Anybody running xx1? How's it holding up?

Kinda interested in this. Have been burnt a few times by early adoption since the shore is rough on parts. Would like to hear how these are holding up in our environment.

I spoke with a guy at the bike shop who went xx1 and he loves it.
Iirc, it's on his all-mountain 29'er.

I'd love to go xx1. The gear ratios range from 0.23:1 - 1.31:1 (with a 34t front) which is better for climbing than a standard 11-32 cassette and a granny gear. Although you give up a tiny bit of top speed, 1.31:1 compared to 1.33:1

The nerd in me like xx1.
The lazy bastard who doesn't like challenging climbs likes xx1.

My wallet does not like xx1 though. $1000+ for all the bits is pricey.

Sweet hayzeus, who runs an 11-32 these days?! 1994 called and wants its cassette back.

no doubt there will be trickle down for 2014 (ie, x9), as well as aftermarket options. you can already buy a standard crank compatible ring from wolf tooth, and raceface has a similar proto ring.

also, a neat euro 40t fat range cog set for a standard sram cassette:

given my positive experience with a single ring 11-36 / zee derailleur setup, i find this (full range, single derailleur) concept really appealing. no doubt we'll see more iterations soon.

edit - neat - wolftooth has a 104 bcd 30t ring… paired with that 11-36 might be a killer (cheap) shimano alternative to xx1:

Im a little confused at how you came to your gear ratios, but my math might just suck.
10-spd with an 11-36T cassette and one of RaceFace's new narrow-wide 30T rings might be do-able as well?

I have a 30t 104bcd wolftooth ring coming my way soon…will letcha know how it fares. Do you have a better link to that cassette…that piques my interest.

While the advantages of single-ring definitely exist, it is nice to instantly drop into the granny ring when faced with that misplaced technical climb in the middle of a descent.

I'm looking forward to seeing the trickle-down as well as Shimano's answer. Hopefully they'll go the direction of a wide-range 10 speed that works with existing free hub bodies. That General Lee option looks sweet but is still quite pricey.

not xx1, but I'm running a 32 single on front with an 11-36 10 speed cassette for an all-round gearing on my big bike (Bansee Scythe), so I can still happily climb Burke, Eagle, and Fromme. Well, not always happily, but still Burke-able. The downside is a longer cage rear derailleur to make sure you have the pull in the derailleur to handle the suspension compression and careful tweaking of the chain-length. Works brilliantly.

I agree with this. I have a 31T (HBC) single front and 11-36 on the back of my Delirium. Can climb Fromme etc, with it quite happily. Looking forward to RaceFace's 30T 104BCD ring.

I'm running 32 with an 11-36 cassette and the new Saint clutch derailleur on my Mojo. It shifts really well, in fact better than my very used xtr clutch derailleur that's on my Satori.
On that note keen on trying a 30t for the 29er, and would kill for xx1:)

^the wee short cage zee also handles this setup just fine.

pedalhound - think i'm going to give it a go as well (30t wolftooth w/ no guide + 11-36 + zee). boss cheapo xx1.

Yeah, I am getting a guide from Blackspire (the new TrailX) so I will be putting that on as well…going to test with both…but don't want to ride w/out the taco much as I tend to bash into stuff…
