Great write-up. Didn't look like you were suffering too bad up Mtn Highway when you started climbing again. You passed me, the wife, and the kids right around the exit to Floppy and were the only one of the top three to bother to say hello. Good form all around.

Somewhere between McGyver and Packrat, depending on the length of the ride and the distance I'd have to walk out at what time of day.

An oddity that I carry is a spare rear derailleur as single speeding it can really suck if there's lots of up and down to get home and adjusting chain length, hi/low limits, etc. takes so much time versus have a low-end $20 derailleur to slap on.

Other than that, I carry a tube, pump, patch kit, multi-tool w/ chainbreaker, zipties, relevant hanger, a few links of relevant chain, and a spare derailleur cable.

Thanks for this timely review. Just rebuilding the kids' bikes with 9 speed 12-36 cassettes and no clutch derailleur along with 30t RF NW rings so they still don't have the complication of a front derailleur but a good climbing gear with their 24″ wheels (smaller wheel size also makes gearing lower). Glad it's working. This mod should work well in the park for them without dropped chains, but also allow them to climb a good deal of where we are going - should make Burke more rideable, as Fromme was all good with the older 32 front, 34 rear low with 24″ wheels.

Gore socks:

Gotta agree with the Gore Socks. Spendy at $60, but better than plastic bags for the same breathability reasons as a breathable jacket. I ride most every weekday through the winter and a pair of gore socks typically lasts 2 to 3 seasons. Even with a minor holes over time, they still work. And with plastic bags, your heels slip.

Agree with Morgman on buying a quality fabric rather than brand or bike specific. Most bike specific jackets I've had in the past don't carry the quality or know-how of outdoor brands. PacLite rules the roost, but even Marmot Precip jacket, at half the price of a mtb brand, works 80% better.

Micro headlamp, waterproof matches, and a space blanket… you never know when it's gonna' get dark fast after an injury or major mechanical. In summer you suffer, in winter you die.

Did two laps in the park yesterday on the 29r, as I was coming off an all mountain ride and a ticket landed in my lap late in the day. I estimated the Commencal Meta29r with it's slack(er) angles and leggy travel would do well, as I've ridden that bike on more terrain this year than I would have imagined, but it truly was a revelation. CIU was so fast with unfortunately fun overshoots on pretty much all the hits and still able to tweak the bike out on many. The Ninja/Karate/Club combo was thrilling. Thought the berms would be too tight for the wheelbase, but it just trucked around them and Devils club felt freshly raked.

I wouldn't likely love it on In Deep or Goat Gully or Freight Train, but all the in between stuff might make a full day in the park worth exploring next year…. or maybe it was just riding such a light flickable bike in the park rather than the 26″ sled????

Or maybe it's just that all bikes are fun.

Second Billy and Howler. Also the grippier rock slab dominated trails are still riding well. Indutrial Disease drains well, 3 Birds, Lower Sproat all run pretty well. Flank yesterday was still below snowline, but there were flurries as I was riding. I'm sure it's there today as we went up to KadenWood last night for a snowball fight and night rip down Big Timber, which is also a safe bet.

Been riding most every morning before work and constantly amazed how well Whistler trails drain and flow. Especially if you are picking firmer trails or trails with lots of rock. Industrial Disease has been a real calling card to me lately given the amount of rideable rock even when wet and trail conditions similar to that of Howler. Same with 3 Birds and others in that area.

Loving fall riding here and not missing the true mud of the Lower Mainland.

That side definitely not drying out anymore with overnight cold and dew. Rode Kashmir, Kush, Downtown the other morning and it woke me up real fast. Kush seems less battered but could be moisture.

Climbed Tunnel Vision today and was surprised how climbable it is. Other than the Rocks at the top, the only hike was one small short steep on the old skid. Much potential for that with the new descent route in play. Great way to get to Cheakamus trails from Creekside.

I was tired of phones basically just cropping the bed after two years. I also wanted something with some weather resistance without massive armoured cases. I use the phone as 80% of my office and it's always in my pocket - constant photos rain or shine for site visits and inspections and lots of trail forks and mapping use riding and skiing.

2 years ago I went the path less travelled and bought a Sony Xperia Z3. 2 years later it's still working ad new and battery life is still well over a full day of active use. Have fully submersed it several times. Simple soft thin polymer case with no screen protector. Completely satisfied with this phone and was even able to delete much of the proprietary software.

Was in Japan for work this year and these things were everywhere. They know.

also forgot to mention that the next part of the tunnel vision project after the descending line is complete will be to add a few new sections on the old line so we can transition it to more of a climbing route to access cheakamus…there's an old skid road between TV and IBT that we should be able to build too, then you'll basically climb TV, peel off and traverse over to the top of IBT. That'll likely be a next year project though at this point

Wow… we were just talking about that being reversed to a climbing route. This sounds like a worthy project. I think (???) there could be a nice descent built as well from the mid TV (above HF/LMT) that would descend off a small plateau in there down to the IBT/AMPM intersection and flow right down into AMPM. At least this is what the contours show me… curious about that old skid road.

Toonie race last night was fantastic. So many good people on the trail. Finished with a front flat, but got that off the second jump on the home stretch, so just rode it out. Nice work WORCA and I look forward to next season right from the start.

This morning hit Heavy Flow/Tunnel/Big Timber before work. Some nice cleaning up and re-routing on Heavy Flow (at least from the last time I rode it). The new finish to HF/Tunnel is really coming along. Are there official Trail Days on that or is there a posted time that WORCA will be working on it to help out? That's pretty easy access from home to pop by and lend a hand in the mornings. Will be great when done.

Big Timber seems to be the only non bike-park stage of the NAET. Looked at the rest of the route online. A bit confusing, but it seems like they are trying to take the enduro out of enduro as even the majority of the transitions are bike-park and downhill. I'd be betting on pulling a bigger bike through that event as climbing is nominal.

well, this morning's ride was about the most brown pow velcro-like bliss I've ever had on IBT. That's all.

So much park goodness right now. All of it riding so fast. We did 3 laps of Dusty's to BC Trail, the boy getting faster each lap now that he can ride it all clean and without stopping. So much fun.

A-Line fully re-opened. Other jump trails - Freight Train, DM all running fast and smooth.

Re-discovered love for Upper and Lower Joyride.

Just all good today.
