Buying used skis

So I bought some boots (proper - Destination) and am looking to pick up some skis.

Seeing as I've only got a few magic chair laps, an easy out lap and all the blue runs from the bottom of Solar Coaster down, I don't really want to commit to anything new.

Now from what I've read here, binding mounting is a total clusterfuck. Should I only be looking at buying skis that include bindings? If not, is there anything I should look out for, like boot size?

Any other tips greatly appreciated.

Usually pretty good supply of used skis on Craigslist and if you're eating a gnar bar, you can head over to TGR and shop their used gear forum.

That said, you would intuitively stick to a "system" ski that includes a binding on a sliding rail, then you are not going to have to deal with a remount should your BSL not match the mount on a flat mounted used set. That said, many system skis are more multi-purpose intermediate skis (with some notable exceptions) and if you're athletic and want to ski bigger terrain as you improve, you may not be thrilled with that choice over time.

Another option is to hit any of the CanSki's at Whistler or the Squamish Clearance Centre. They have a pretty big stock of ex-rentals, some of which are not heavily used, for between $250 and $350. These are all mounted the demo/rental bindings on a sliding plate, so can be set up and centred for any boot size. And typically they come with a fresh grind and wax. Less of a risk. Squamish location had a good stock of mid-fat to fat Salomon's in longer lengths (185cm+).

Apparently I have a high-volume, high-instep foot. Desti-dude had me try on brand-x (forget what it was..) didn't fit in the slightest. Then went on to Head and Lange. Went with the Head Vector 125's.

No cool-kid boots for me I guess.

I'm not a small dude (215ish lbs). Seeing as I love sweet jumps, I reckon I'll be taking my skis of said jumps relatively soon. Am I gonna have a bad time huckin' on a 'system' ski?

look for demo bindings if you can, they will fit anybody without a remount and you get to play with moving boot center, they should hold you [HTML_REMOVED] a system ski

boots that fit ARE cool boots … buddy saved you from yourself

Cool, thanks. I didn't know about the FB group. I assume it's the closed group that has 9,000+ members?

Great tip… didn't know about that!

And agree with XXXr… at your size, i'd rather go with a good Demo binding than a system ski (again, some notable exceptions). If you're big, CanSki had lots of Salomon Rocker and Rocker2 stuff for $300+ depending on condition mounted demo. Summit usually does as well, but a thinner pick right now.

Accept Jesus as your personal saviour and make the pilgrimage out to Mad Dogs in Abbotsford or is it Abbotabad and score on their 60% off sale.
