logging roads are one of the fastest ways to blow through unserviceable ball joints.

Spring for some good serviceable ball joints and you'll be good and happy for many miles…

Umm…. should have listened to him ? Hopefully you'll get it fixed free though, is there much damage to the body work ?

Good to see your okay, that could have caused some seriously nasty damage.

So you didn't notice anything wrong, such as increased stearing effort, reduced self-centering, or noise in the front suspension?

Common problem. A friend bought a new 4 Runner about 10-15 years ago, and within a couple days the head gasket blew.

Funny thing… had just noticed it a few days ago, and was going to get it checked out this week.

Trade it in for a 2500HD GM/Chevy deisel. Seriously. Best work trucks made. Even an older Dodge half ton with a solid front axle is twice the truck that Toyota is.

Any half ton, unless modified, will not survive very long riding logging roads unless you are doing a little over walking speed. It might say 4x4 on the side, but that means little when you actually half to haul shit or take it off road. I think I told you this before right? ;)

130,000kms is not a lot for a truck, but it doesn't take long for a light duty to fall apart when pushed like a big one.

Dude….wow….I can't imagine that feeling. Glad to hear you're ok, hope Toyota makes it right.

so when an american manufacturer has a recall, and then the truck is still driven, and then it breaks, its cause its not a good truck? pretty sure american trucks have had recalls too. Sorry jaysin, we have a 04 tundra, got the notice and fixed but that was a couple years back, i read ur ball joint thread but completly forgot and didnt think about that. didnt u buy it from a used dealership? shouldnt they be aware of that kinda stuff? oh and since when is, bigger the truck better offroad? pretty sure full sized p/us arent first choice for off road enthusists

You said it man, lot's of ignorance in this thread.
My dodge had ball joint issues and needed a recall. At the time I noticed something was wrong, the wheel was flopping around like a donkey johnson. A week after I noticed it, the recall letter came in the mail. The best part was that Dodge wasn't going to pay for an alignment after the bj replacement. That really pissed me off.

Hopefully Toyota will make good on this Jaysin.
Nice truck.

Tundras are half ton trucks, so is an F150, GM/Chevy 1500, Dodge 1500. HD trucks like the F250/350 - 2500/3500 series are stronger and can take more abuse from hauling heavy loads. The undercarriage is built heavier and stronger, including the transmission and sometimes the engine has more power and torque. Does anyone get it now? I thought this was common knowledge?

A Ranger for example is a quarter ton, so is a Tacoma. 3500 dualies are generally ton and a quarter.

Brand specific is less important, its the type of truck that Jay should be considering.

folks… wayne is completly right. My truck is considered "light duty"… and when driven to the limit, any vehicle will require some maintenance and problems fixed.

1st update on my truck is- "sorry, your vin number was not one of the ones recalled, we cant warranty this"

I've gotta go into ICBC and see what they can say about this… maybe let them deal with it. Without a truck, I am without work.
