So I stopped Facebook

I haven't deleted my profile or anything but I did decide I didn't want to waste my time with all of the bullshit on my Facebook feed. Now I find myself with more hours in the day and less to fill them with. Can anyone suggest some decent websites to waste time with?

Thanks

This trip to Kelowna was definately an undertaking - Liam and I had been planning this project for 24 hours. We worked really hard to pull out all the stops in this video. We had slo-mo goggle shots; time lapses; pedal flips; outrageous product shots; unloading and loading the bike; walking through the field with your hand in wheat. At the end of the day this trip was all about just getting out and riding with all my friends.

I stopped checking Facebook about 6 months ago, now I spend a half hour a day on reddit, reading the front page or r/all, or r/blackpeopletwitter, it can get pretty dark pretty quickly and there is lots and lots of porn.

Find some twitter feeds to follow for some good larfs. Ryan Reynolds is right up there.

This reads like

"I've just quit heroin. Can anyone recommend a good source for cocaine"

:)

I tried quitting facebook once, but too many people use it for events and group messaging and I was missing out on things. So now I use it for those features, but I have 'unfollowed' literally everyone. So you're still friends, but nothing ever ends up in your feed unless someone tags or mentions you.

You can also have FB Messenger on your phone, but not the actual FB app. As long as you install messenger after FB, and then delete FB.

Been clean 2 years, quitting FB was the best.
I let the wife sign petitions and what have you.

When I quit people were confused, they asked why?

a) I don't like my co workers knowing what I am up to in my spare time. When they friend request you and you deny it's like you are a giant dick.
b) The slacktivism on FB kills me. Most of the time it's misinformation anyways.
c) I keep in touch with friends and family by other methods. I really could care less if its someones birthday who I haven't talked to in person for 5 years.
d) Being a profile shared by FB for marketing purposes is super lame.
e) Although owned by FB I like insta, because I just like looking at cool pics. That's enough for this guy. It's more impersonal and I like that.
f) Most of us have been on vacation to a tropical beach, the cliche pics really?
G) When I downloaded my data from FB before deleting, they send countless emails for a month trying to get you to not quit. It's funny and creepy at the same time.

Sorry for the rant there

Sites I like.
This one of course
Kinja is a great blog portal to: Sploid, Deadspin, IO9, Gizmodo, etc. The comment sections are well moderated and hilarious. You can find Brock there too.

I quit when the shares went public a few years ago. I hoped my quitting would somehow reduce the value of the shares but apparently my leaving might have, if anything, made the place better. So FB, in fact all social media, can go fuck itself.

Wrong. Always.

Read a book a day and become pseudo-rich like Tai Lopez with rented mansion and rented luxury cars and generate income form a subscription self-help program using stuff you-cut-and-pasted off the Internet.

I don't facebook, twitter, instagram, snapchat, vine etc. What a fuckin' waste of time.

i don't think you've stopped it, it still seems to be working fine from what i can see.

We don't know what our limits are, so to start something with the idea of being limited actually ends up limiting us.

I canned Facebook ages ago when I was still living abroad. Part of it had to do with seeing how many people around me were constantly looking at their phones, or browsing the net, and all the lies - "oh, it's just some work stuff", absolute utter horseshit. Furthermore, I started to realize it became de facto hit material over coffee every morning, after surfing, before dinner - it just subversively became a reflex within my life. I recognized its detriment in others' and recognized how much of my time was 100% wasted (I don't fall for that "it keeps me in touch with my friends" bullshit, real friends visit and know how to pick up a fkn phone!), and killed it.

Then FB tells me it'll take 2 weeks before my profile is deleted. LOL!!!! I know exactly what this "2 week period" is for; it's for the addiction to kick back in and make people log in and view - once that happens - it's another 2 weeks. Kinda like kicking junk but having the dealer as your roommate, "oh no mate, it's all good, ya ya, I promise I'll keep the brown out of your face, but I've got a few bags here and there, you know, just stay away from it if you can….".

Enlightenment. Pure and utter enlightenment after that 2 week period was over. Happiness. So many people "oh did you see that on FB"?? No, FB sucks and I don't use it, but this is what I DID today!!. And the looks I get. Add to this the tomes of studies done on how it's a huge aspect (negative one at that) to adults and teenagers development and the like, contributing to intellectualism's downward trend, and, well, it has been a great decision. Marshall McLuhan would be proud.

Kill it. Kill it with fire!! Free yourself of the timesuck and let go of that reliance on serotonin and dopamine release everytime you witness a "Like" from something you wrote. It's mind control. And it's virtual. Go outside, visit your friends, ride a bike, and step away from FB Land. It's mindless.

Yeah they don't like it one bit when you try to quit.
Try and delete your apple ID profile. You have to call them. So fucked
