Saw a woman getting a ticket for her bikerack tonight, in the PoMo hood.. One of those Thule top tube holding ones.

like this:

anyone ever gotten a ticket?

I've got one like this, and now I'm worried..

WTF are you supposed to do? plate in the rear window? I'm sure there are 10,000 vehicles in Van with obstructed plates..

D-bags.

Is there a Vancouver in Taiwan?! I had no idea!!

I think racks sold in the UK have a spot for the plate. Wonder If that will end up happening here one day?

How do you know that's what she was getting a ticket for? I can remember there was an article in the Sun or Province regarding this. I think he person was pissed that racks could legally be sold that we're illegal to use

I got a warning for this way back when…

Cop said that the plate had to be clearly visible from the car behind mine.

I asked him how he would ID my car if i was towing a borrowed trailer.

….all he could say was, "good point".

I saw her get out, walk back to where the cop was parked behind her, look at her plate, and shake her head…

hahaha

It's the law, but I guess they don't enforce it, so we have got used to it.

Most cars I've seen in Europe with bike racks roll like this:

I've heard from a few different people that they won't usually pull you over just for the rack/plate thing, but if they're already ticketing you for something else (like speeding, etc) then they'll tack it on.

you can always make more money but you can never make more time.

I think it's called work for a reason. Or else they probably would have called it fun-time at the fun factory.

in Europe the plates have to be visible at all times and so do the back lights on the car. the plate also has to be illuminated. because of this, all bike racks (or similar) have to be sold with lights, mounting for the plate and wiring for the lights.

That said, the police don't enforce this too much (at least not locally) but, as someone pointed out, they add this to the the ticket for something else (speeding etc.)

What it really comes down to is that the obscured plate law is in the BC MVA, if you don't like it any motor vehicle branch will gladly take your driver's license back.

Just what until the tolls go in on the Port Mann, it's going to be an obscured plate blood bath!
