i raced DH off and on from 95 til 02 and thats what i remember from the events i raced at .

There was a kids XC race/ride the day before.
I know it wasn't horn-tossingly extreme enough for the DH crowd, but there was a kids event the day before that they would have been free to participate in

Island Cup is commisaire free, casual and fun. Lots of fast kids and great courses. We still follow basic rules so people don't get in trouble later on when they hit bigger races. Kids race at Cumberland was a short upper section of the course, youngest kid was 5 and had a blast. His dad was right behind him and the beginner men were all cheering him on. All kids were brought up to the podium.
You guys really do a killer job of putting on a great series of races and focusing on what it should be about: fun and participation. Categories for all. We're trying to emulate what you do in our rescucitation of the Cardiac Classic this year. Simple categories (Expert, Intermediate, Beginner). Wicked value($25 or $30 entry), and kids events to for all ages. Also, since we're going grassroots there won't be any commissaires and it should be a more laid back vibe still with the same suffer quotient!
