Its like a steeper Mach Chicken minus the clearcut. GREAT race course. Super bummed to be out of town for this one. I guess a day at Silver Star will help numb some of the hurt. Good luck to those that are racing and if you are considering it…DO IT! You will not be disappointed. Besides, its local for most. No travel = cheap!

Its funny that people think they should get more than 5 shuttles on a practice day.

If you cant learn the track in 5 laps then start hiking. 5 laps on practice day, 2 on race day = 7.

If you need more than 5 runs you probably should find another hobby.

Anyone out there racing the XC this year?

I'll be out for the 3 lapper loop. And I won't be whinning about no damn shuttles.

We have ordered a third shuttle bus with a 20 passenger capacity as well as 1 ton cube van for 20 bikes,in addition to the two 32 passenger buses and two 32 cap. bike trailers.
8toilets and the BRCommittee has been working hard to try our best to be ahead and think of all the logistics to make Bear fun.
We can't control the crappy back road,or if a rider get injured, but we can work hard to do our best.
If you were the rider or it was someone you knew, things might be different.
Good luck to all racers, don't forget to have fun, and we always are ready for more volunteers to help out.
XC racers or DHers or gosh Both… it's on …..

The course is marked, and getting better with this recent spell of dry weather. Good luck!

From my experience, if you want to get lots of practice runs in at Bear it's pretty simple:

According to the race website, sign in for registered racers starts at 8:00 am, shuttles start at 8:30, and new registrations starts at 9 am. Pre-register, show up to sign in at 8 sharp, then walk the 10 feet from the registration table to the front of the shuttle lineup. I know of guys who have done more than 8 laps on the Saturday practice using the current shuttle system they use at Bear. Don't show up an noon then whine about not enough shuttles.

shuttling this year should be a non-issue. they tried to get this system up in time for Arduum, but it looks like Bear will be the place to test this rig out.

I'm thinking about heading out there and trying some DH racing for the first time. How gnarly is the course and is it a suitable course for a newbie racer?

Cycling BC has declared this course acceptable for U15, so while the course can be challenging with more speed, it's rideable by all.

And, another way of putting it: If I can race it, anyone can.

It's where I did my first race. It's a great course. The top half is rough, but not too nasty, and the bottom is super fast and flowy with some (optional) doubles.

Sounds good Gary! We're very lucky you guys work so hard to put these things on. Where would we be without you, Greg, Danise, Dan Karla etc eh? Good luck with the event.
