4 weeks closer and only a few weeks to go and this thread isn't a hotbed of activity?

Shocking!

How did the Cworx enduro affect anyones tire/equipment choices? Any gear updates?

I'll be running heavier tires that I was thinking a month ago.

Rear I am 95% set on 2.1 BBG UST/DTC. Fast and the UST casing is beefy at about 820g for the tire.

Front I ran 3c DHF EXO for the Enduro. In talking with tire guru Clark he thinks a HR2 is slightly faster, might look into a 60a HR2 EXO for the front.

I ran a HR2 3C on the rear in Peru and it was not up to snuff. The casing was too thin for 10,000 ft dh runs, also peeled it off the rim once, might have been too low in tire pressure.

I've had numerous flats in both the Jacks and Queens and taco'd a rim in training runs at the Queens. This year tires and wheels will not be where I skimp on weight.

With 800+ gram tires my bike should be 30lbs with dropper and I'll be happy with that.

I wonder how the big day is going to shake out. With the un-timed sections you can poodle along at a slow pace saving energy. It could take a long time to finish the day if too much time is wasted between timed stages.

I will be sticking with my clutch sx's….they aren't the lightest, or the heaviest, but they're burly and grippy as hell!

've been thinking i would run 2.35" maxxis tires again. i rode a pinner dhf/r combo last time and had no flats - no traction, either, on day 4 but i think that had to do with the conditions and tire/rim combo. thinking an hr up front and something faster in the back. i would definitely prefer to run something burlier for the descents, but not keen on lugging them around lost lake, up the flank, etc.

purgatory UST rear

really? for some reason i have it in my head that the purgatory would make a good, highroller-esque front tire… never tried one though, could be i'm out to lunch

This is really counterintuitive to me.
The HR is almost always used as a wet conditions tire and the Butcher as a Minion derivative should be better when it's dry?

Excited and nervous all at the same time, especially as a TH race first timer!

In terms of tires I'll get some fresh rubber for the race. I've been using the minion up front for a few years so am used to the that and probably try the purgatory at the back. Both with tubes.

For the bike I'll be on my Knolly Endorphin with a 150mm Talas 32mm up front, I'll probably leave it in the 130mm travel for most of the Kong Endur-X. The Reverb dropper post (or equivalent) is going to be great for this race.

I've been pre-riding a lot of the sections over the last month and am really loving the course. Thanks to Tony.

I have the following rough predictions for my times on the Kong Endur-X. Based on pre-riding the sections I have done. This seems to average out at an overall average of just under 10km/h. Although things might be a little slower by day 3 ;)

na, just gonna be a rad day, errr weekend, shredding with great friends! to be honest, the one thing that does have me a bit nervous is the night stage…that's a confusing course in the daylight! need to get out a few times to pre-ride that.

im still undecided whether i want a butcher sx or control up front… I'd like to go tubeless prior to the race. Have a purg out back now and its been excellent, though i might have to get a new one if do go tubeless…

Eek, I'm making that around 3 hours on the clock. That definitely helps drive home how big a day it's going to be.

Anyone found anywhere that has Butcher Controls in stock? I've been failing to track any down. Alternatively has anyone had good experience running the Butcher SX with Stans?

Been trying a few spec tyres lately to work out what'll work. My feelings so far:

  • Purgatory Control - great tyre, really predictable and amazingly easy to inflate tubeless on stans. Kind of showed up the single ply minion I had up front. Unfortunately only lasted 3 rides before I half tore a block off then rimmed it hard enough to put a hole in the side wall.
  • Clutch Control - braking and straight line grip is really good, inflated tubeless just as easy as the purg, however the gap is a bit disconcerting. Definitely engenders more confidence on the rear. Need to get a few more rides with it on the back to get used to it.
  • Chunder SX - Worked pretty nicely as a front tyre with the Clutch, but seems to have similar gap issues for me that I'm not keen on on the front. Only rode it so far for the Enduro training [HTML_REMOVED] race so need more time to make a decision. The SX casing is definitely not as easy as the Control to blow up tubeless, but it may be because this tyre is a bit old now.

I'm not sure I understand what this list is all about….is that supposed to be time for each sector? because roundhouse to the saddle is a LOT more than 10 minutes!

There are a few unknowns in that list. I haven't done the sections from the start down to the top of it's business time. So I used the science of Guess-timation for those.

I guess we'd be taking Pikka's traverse to get to the saddle?
