But ho lee phuck … hot water taps on the right and cold water on the left? Ima get burned ffs.

:safrica:

Oh, and there are some seriously po folks here. I mean less than nothing poor.

Weird, I don't remember the water taps being reversed when I was there. Do remember the shanty towns though.

Load your luggage full of elephant tusks and play it off like no big deal.

So far, it's been that way in three different homes, so I'm figuring that's normal here.

Joburg for now, heading to Planesburg park for safari today. Back to Joburg for a wedding on the weekend, then long drive via garden route to Cape Town. Two weeks in C'town.

Do a Chibuku Shake Shake tasting for the beer thread.

I don't have fond memories of J'Burg.

Satllenbosh was cool, watched a world Cup DH there in 98.

Does anyone?

Jo'burg was the place that scared me the most when I was backpacking through africa. I just holed up in a hotel and got out as quick as I could.

The goal was in and out in as short a time possible. I had been in Africa for over 3 months at that point and pretty adjusted to using the local mini-buses to get around. Got mugged between the main train/bus station and the mini-bus depot in Jo'burg.

Sucked getting passport and paperwork replaced. Thankfully they didn't take my backpack and I had a spare debit card and visa hidden.

Not as foreign as it sounds … According to Wikipedia Ontario and Québec drove on the right since before their takeover from the French, and were allowed to retain the custom. The central provinces also drove on the right. The eastern and western provinces changed to the right in stages: British Columbia on 1 January 1922, New Brunswick on 1 December 1922, Nova Scotia on 15 April 1923,[36] and Prince Edward Island on 1 May 1924. Newfoundland changed to driving on the right in 1947 before becoming part of Canada in 1949.
