Maybe we should spend less time worrying about the cost of the latest plastic shit from the dollar store, and more time thinking about the environmental cost of said plastic shit.

or buying a home that's larger than what you really need, or new children's toys instead of used ones, etc, etc.

not trying to slam you personally, but it's just a reminder that we're all dirty to one degree or another.

We don't know what our limits are, so to start something with the idea of being limited actually ends up limiting us.

Yes, we're all "guilty" to some extent. But the guy who steals a loaf of bread is just as much a criminal as a mass murderer … so we should we tar all criminals with the same brush?

We can reduce consumption and pollution a lot just by targeting the few biggest consumers.

those bulk ships in Vancouver are for exports though…..

Not the point though, is it. More important is that any reduction in shipping means less pollution, so reduced importation of container ships bearing plastic shit is an improvement. Enacting international laws banning the use of dirty, toxic fuels might cost everyone more for imported/exported goods, but sorry if the goal of an earth that our children can inhabit without carrying supplemental oxygen is expensive.

sorry i thought you were commenting on this oil leaking from a grain ship not about reducing purchases from the dollar store.

its hard to keep up

i would agree that a global move from bunker fuel would be an environmental win. it would need to be done on a global scale though which like so many other things is tough to get everyone to agree on. anyway its too nice out, im going to go burn some two stroke. brappp

Cargo ships running on LNG are being built.

Amazing how much air pollution freighters create in Vancouver harbor. More than all lower mainland vehicles.

I'd be curious if there are numbers to back that up?

I'm not saying deep sea ships don't create pollution, just I've never seen any numbers to back up your claim.

Most deep sea ships would be running an aux and a boiler while at anchor or at the dock.

Very little steaming time while in port.

That would have been awesome. I've met Chris before, and he's a big fella.

Here's the video for anyone that missed it.

your not allowed to burn bunker at port. you have to run low sulpher deisel withing 200 miles, so say 20 ships in port running 2500 litres of diesel per day.

This article in the UK's Daily Mail, a pro-Conservative paper hardly given to environmentalist hyperboly claims

"16 ships create as much pollution as all the cars in the world"
