Computer Speaker Question

So I'm in the market for new speakers. Booming bass is not important as I live in an apartment and would like to maintain good relations with the neighbours. What should I buy for crisp, clean sound at low to medium volume? Rep gun loaded and ready to fire.

Base line logitech 2.1 system… 2 small sattelites and a 4" woofer with an 8" passive radiator… I found them to be quite accurate for sound reproduction, they dont break the bank, and they are loud enough for a good movie watching experience, but jot so loud as to piss off neighbors….

agreed. we have something very similar. its enough for a party at an apartment, and you can make the bass shake if you want, but its also pretty decent for movies, football, and music at lower volumes…

that i got on sale and i liek them a lot. i had no need for a sub, and they put out enough crisp music / game noise as i needed.

whats your budget.

I don't want to spend a ton, but I'm willing to shell out for quality and longevity. Best value for money is what I'm looking for. Keep em coming.

These are interesting, as I don't think I have a need for a subwoofer. The reviews are generally positive but some say the midrange is not so good.

I second the Audioengine A2s… I have a pair and if you spend a bit of time setting them up properly (I custom made some little stands out of foam to isolate them and aim them towards me) they are really, really good little speakers.

I would second the recommendation for a basic Logitech 2.1 type system, the bass should be more than sufficient considering you're in an apartment.

either of these would be fine:

Right now I have a Logitech base line 2.1 system which I'm thinking of hooking up to my tv. The bass is good but the little speakers sound tinny. The system is about 5 years old.

The audioengine a2's look beautiful, but judging by reviews on amazon they have some funky sound characteristics.

I'm going to go with the creative gigaworks t20 speakers. Decent price and overwhelmingly positive reviews.

Spend the extra on a 4.1 or 5.1 set up if you ever think you want to use it for more than just sitting at the computer.

I have this 4.1 system set up in my garage.

And this set in the house.

The sound difference is night and day. The Logisys is way way better. I don't have it set up as a front and back just all one channel. The costs were comparable, but the basic 2.1 is not even in the same league.

Ended up going with a logitech 5.1 system. Tested a few out first and was amazed at how crappy the sound is on a lot of systems. I heard a noticeable difference stepping up to the $400+ price range but the wallet said no. I'm going to use my new setup as home theater audio and set it up surround. Watched a QOTSA concert last night and was happy with the sound.

I was a little disappointed with the sound right out of the box but after tweaking some settings on my laptop it's good.
