Custom Wheels- Which is more important to you? - Hub vs Rims

Complete wheels like complete bikes usually are not spec'd the way I want them. I'd rather build custom and unless you are selecting particularly blingy parts that process doesn't have to be very expensive. Not to mention you can skip the machine built wheels and get your wheels built by a human. Shipping complete wheel sets to a Canadian address from the US [usual source for pre-built wheel options] can also be a drag due to the size of the box vs. buying rims and hubs.

I've used frame and fork. It works, but I'd not really recommend it for offset mtb wheels and so on.

A cheap park or feedback will work fine. There are probably a load fo cheap ones around used, or if you have a mate who builds wheels occasionally, borrow their stand.

I've used the master, it's beautiful, but went for the 4-sided SW-40 for my personal kit. For building new wheels it doesn't matter, but truing up beat to shit nipples, the 4-sided is a life saver. It's slower to use, so if you have a tool fetish or build a fair number of wheels, maybe get both.

These are great. Unior's tools are fantastic too with 4 sided contact and good fit.

I have the Park master and the DT-Swiss fancy one.. I like the latter better, but only by a little bit.  They are better to use on a stand.

I have the wee park spoke wrenches to chuck in my pocket when riding.
