FreeRiding Kills.

Just reflecting on past years of riding and past bikes I came across the thought that I haven't had my bike running mint for more than 2 months. Today I broke my bike again and that was the longest bike I've had that ran mint(minus no rear brake). Freeriding is killer on the bike, and a murderer on the pocketbook. Looks like I won't be riding for a while because university took all my money. Hopefully I can engineer a chainstay outa steel in my machining class.

Anyone else have this problem of breaking your bike a lot? Freeriding has everything to do with how much you weigh LOL. Being 220 pounds doesn't help. Sometimes I wish I was like you little kids at 140 pounds:lol:

Guess I'm pretty lucky. I weigh 111lbs. And it's not that great cause the young irresponsible ones get shafted with the welfare bikes which also break easily. Guess I'm screwed cause im young. But im sure youve gone thru the same thing.

I guess being an average guy @ 170 has its advantages. 220 must be hard on a bike.

I agree its not cheap but they key to keeping your bike riding smoothly and properly is being a smooth rider, thats where I see the most damage done, and doing your part by keeping everything on ur ride, clean and lubed and tight, take some pride in ur ride and it will last. Also dont do dumb things have some sense ie. drops to flat.

I'm 160 6'2" and I dont break stuff and I'm not that smooth either. Being light and tall is a huge help.

I dont go very big but I know that plenty of heavier people destroy bikes doing the same stuff I do.

Assuming you don't ride Hardtail right now.. you could go hardtail. Rock a bigass fork, Trailpimp wheels.. etc - I think you could build a pretty bulletproof hardtail which would be a lot better on the wallet, it all boils down to how good your back is i guess..

Maintenance has nothing to do with a frame failure.
