Take from the name the biker beer thread.

I would have to say the on site research was quit tasty. Especially seeing I got there after a really good ride.

FVMBA is quit fortunate with this new partnership with Mission Springs. Expect some big things to be happening in the Valley!

Big things are about to happen. FVMBA and Mission Springs Brewery are stoked to bring you the Sumas Smack Down.

This mass start race is a bit different than any of our Spring Series races. Its longer and will finally go higher up the mountian than we were able to during the Spring Series.

Heres the course http://connect.garmin.com/activity/215176575

Lifecycles will be awarding KOM/QOM and Super D splits. After an initial lower loop, the KOM/QOM will be timed from the lower parking lot up passed the yellow gate at the top. The Super D split will timed from mid Knobgobbler down to the bottom of Squidline. Timing will be handled by Webscorer.com.

Pre registration entry is $30 and will close on Sept 19th. Your entry will include a free lunch courtesy of Avenue Body Shop and Doc's Auto Body, an entry into the Cap-it draw for a $500 Thule hitch rack and Specalized water bottle stuffed with goodies from Cliffbar.

We will be having a sub category for all those guys who enjoy the not-so-competitive side of racing. This will be the Heavy Pedal category. Rider and bike must weigh 210lbs plus. You will be required to weigh in at registration for this category. You can expect beer for your hard work.

You can pre register at http://reg.ccnbikes.com/index.php/cycling-events We are limiting this race to only 100 entries. If this race hasn't sold out by Sept 19th, there will be a $5 day of late registration fee. Day of registration is only open from 8am to 9am. Due to prep needed for Webscorer timing, we wont except registration passed 9am. Pre reg racers can still pick up there race package up untill 9:30am on race day.

As always, you will need to be an FVMBA member and have a Cycling BC license (UCI/Cit/clubaffiliate).

So the course is up the road, down Emma Peel, back up to the cut in on Knob Gobbler (not to the top), then down KG, Squid line, back up to No Time Out and down to the finish?

Nope.

Our course map will be out soon. Now that our graphics guys has finish up with poster design, he needs to catch up on some family time. So in a couple of days we will post a course map.

The lower starting loop heads from the parking lot up the main road. Take your first right up the double track service road. You are going to climb this road, passed Emma Peel, staying left at all forks, for about 8mins. You will end up hooking right onto mid Squidline and start heading down. There is a point where Squidline comes out right on to a service roads and travers for 100m before it turns left into the bush and has a little climb. This is where you will stay on the service road and loop back around and ride Emma Peel backwards till you hit the main road climb where the road does a little left hand switchback. Cross the road and a take a few jeep trails that send you down a fast rip to No Timeout. This will be on the parking lot side of the bridge that was put in last year. This sweet bit of single track will loop you back to the parking lot. Fast dudes will do this loop in about 15mins. Regular joes 24mins.

Once you are back on the main road climb is when the KOM split starts to be timed. Head up the climb all the way to the mid enterance to Knobgobbler. KOM split stops here and Super D split starts.

Super D is down mid Knobgobbler and Squidline. The end of this split will be just up the double track once you come out of the bush from Squidline.

Ride the road back to the parking lot. Just before you get to the parking lot, you will take a hard right up "the Wall". One last climb that will take you to the top of the clear cut where you will finish out the race on lower Emma Peel.

Are your legs hurting yet?

Already in talks with my legal team ……Such raucous use of my handle without permission shall not go unpunished.

Unless there is a consolation beer involved….

May have to get off my ass for this one!

More course prep has been complete! We've brushed and cleared the enterance into Emma Peel off the clear cut, at the top of the Wall Climb. And the lower loop Squidline/Emma Peel service road bypass has been cut in and is ready to ride.

Due to the lack of rain and dry conditions of late, some sections of the bypass have just been left as "raked n' ride". This is to hopefully eliminate certain sections from turning into a giant, powdery dust bowl. You will be riding Emma Peel backwards to the main road climb during the opening lower loop part of the race.

I've never ridden anywhere in the Valley and thought the Smackdown might be a good opportunity to support another group, check out the trails and have some fun. Anyone from North Van heading out that's interested in carpooling?

Some of the finer details to this raffle, winning ticket either gets this bike or a $3000 credit to Wentings to pickup a bike that may suit your ride style a bit better.

Either way, its a smoking deal if you win. We'll be making the draw just prior to our Spring Series. So if your needing a new bike, stop by Mission Springs Brew pub, buy a pint of their new TrailBlazer Pilzner and a couple raffle tickets. Wentings is also selling raffle tickets.
