Who's got one of those freestanding (not under the counter) type dishwashers? or a countertop one. Apparently my doctor's note for not doing dishes is beginning to wear out it's welcome 'round these parts, so I've been instructed to investigate cost of running one of these units…
So whatcha got, how old is it, did your electrical bill (or gas or however you heat your water) skyrocket? Do they really suck shitloads of water and power?
Newer/more expensive ones use less power and clean better somehow I imagine?
I'm disgusted that I'm asking for advice on purchasing kitchen appliances.

Bought one a few years back when I broke my hand. HUGE helper. Without it, I would have been eating out every meal, or spending 3 hours/day washing dishes. Didn't notice any increase in power consumption, but only ran it about every 5-7 days. The energy star models (most of them these days) aren't too bad. Find one that's sized right, and has the lowest power consumption. There's a huge range out there.

Can't speak to water use. Hard to tell without a meter.

I bought one when I lived in rez at UBC. Got it used for $40 and I was convinced it would solve all the dishwashing problems in our quad. It didn't…the roommates were all too lazy to load or unload it. After running a load they would put dirty dishes in without emptying it. When full of clean stuff was inevitably the only time they would load it. :stupid: They wrecked every pot and pan by putting them in the washer too.

I finally gave up and sold it. Got $50 which gave me some satisfaction. Ultimately the only solution was to lose the roommates and get my own place.

To the OP - No idea on cost, we never saw any bills for the place.

Thankfully Gage was the last place to be built without dishwashers.
