Hi there, wow, finally I can communicate with fellow riders from the lower mainland. This is great. (long and boring, scroll to bottom paragraph if history bores you)
I have been viewing this site regularly for the past two years. The Local knowledge here is quite useful. Kudos.
Judging from the majority of posts here I am assuming most people are very in tune with what happens in the area.
And this is where the the arts come in…
As you know we are out of our Olympic bubble and everyone is taking a break from seeing shows and doing things. Relatively speaking of course. Well, Vancouver has finally hit its own recession. We all know this. We can all sense it. It isn't nearly as bad thanks to the Olympic bubble but it still isn't great. Right?
Well thanks to a decision made by someone who is not in power anymore the art community no longer has the support it once had. This is important. Several companies this year are going to fold for good because of this. In some cases this is a good thing. In others this is a very bad thing. There are many companies who deserve the second chance to rise out of the ashes of the old regimes and grow once more. Ballet BC for example.
If you want the arts to continue to thrive in Vancouver (because there has to be something to do after riding. Who goes to a bar to just drink anymore) then let your government know. Or if you feel like helping just as much but doing very little to do so…
Check out this show… It'll make a great Christmas present for the family.
