wow, I knew a guy and got in, in a couple weeks in 2007… Is that 3T still just a research one, or diagnostic? I used to work on the old magnet at UBC, and helped install one of the ones at St Paul's, well 10yrs ago.

Are you part of the Physics group out there or part of Radiology? I'm not going to RSNA this year, kinda bummed.

Neurology MS / Physics group.

Best trick for anyone waiting for an MRI. Ask to be put on the cancellation list and be ready to drop everything at a moments notice to go in when someone cancels.

Happens all the time when the scanner is doing clinical trials scanning and a patient cant make it in.

Just had my wrist MRI done. I couldn't believe the sounds that came out of that thing.. seems way over the top like it was from a Mel Brooks comedy or a bad Sci-Fi movie.

Oh man I had a 45min sit for my head in that tube, then another sitting for my knee. Oddest machine noises Ive ever herd.

I hear a lot of stories about how people can get in for an MRI in 1 week… 2 weeks…a month, etc…

I would be extremelly curious if their injuries kept them from working… I'm guessing their injuries did.

I laugh at people who say private MRI's will get you into surgery quicker…. bullshit. I had enough money in my bank account for dozens of MRI's and was booked to do it. My GP laughed… "Big deal" he said. "Save your money…Do you really think an MRI will get you any higher on the surgery waiting list!!". He said I could do a crap shoot and get a private MRI. Maybe they would see a blood clot or something that would get me into surgery earlier… but doubtful.

All I can say is do not go back to work with an injury. I waited 2 years for a 45 minute operation because I went back to work. EVERY specialist I went to asked two questions as soon as I saw them….. 1/ What is your age?…. 2/ Are you currently working?… Hmmmm I wonder why they ask that!

Pisses me off… I limped around for 8-10 hour days on a cement floor doing my job for 2 years and now my left hip is fucked. All because they couldn't do a 45 minute surgery since I wasn't a non-working priority.

I agree, my MRI's were private only because my lawyers wanted it asap.

Could be… It took us three years to get a GP in this shithole so my hands were tied. I tried to get specialist referrals out of town, but places like Kelowna, Vernon, the lower mainland, etc.. but none would take out of town patients.

Only 1 of the 3 surgeons in this town would touch my ankle, so my hands were tied.

I asked my GP why the others wouldn't touch the ankle and he said "Feet don't pay the bills". Orthopedic surgeons would sooner poach better paying jobs that our aging baby boomer gov't consider priorities like hip replacements, knee replacements, etc..

Sounds like your knee kept you from working… THAT is the reason you got in quicker IMO.

In my experience, who makes the referral (clinic/doctor) seems to count. Get a referral from a GP who calls themselves a sports medicine doctor and I think you'll get in faster (no proof, but I did). They often, in my experience, have a good working relationship with the local orthopedic surgeon/s. Also, the ortho's at Lions Gate in North Vancouver only do (or at least they used to do) surgery 1 day a week. The rest of the time is spent in consultation, doing surgeries for WCB and "professional development" (and I'm assuming at least one weekday off a week for golf or skiing).

How should these things be prioritized?

Maybe they should give the guy trying to stay working a little priority….

Or how about allowing some privatized surgey in this province to compliment privatized diagnostics like MRI's… that's a whole other topic.

A real man can get crazy on one leg.
