im wanting to put a bed liner on my truck, the do it yourself ones from cdn tire is all i want or need, just so that bikes dont get uber wrecked and so my truck dosnt get uber wrecked etc..

has anyone done this before? theres no real rust on my truck bed, just a tiny but of surface rust, should i sand it off? what if theres somewhere with rust i cant sand off? would it be ok to just roll the bed liner over it, will it seal it kind of deal, or?

haha help!

Cant you just buy big rubber things that go over the deck of the bed in your truck? Or do you want the full thing?

sand off all the rust!

actually sand the whole thing so that the liner sticks better!

actually sand the whole thing, then wipe it down with some thinner/acetone like base to get all that guck off then paint it!

have fun, get someone too help you it's kinda boring doing it all by your lonesome

ps. wear a mask, rust dust is no good for the good ol' poumons.

just put a mattress back there.

Being an agoraphobic adrenaline junkie would be pretty convenient, because you could get your rush from just going to the store to get some milk instead of having to jump off a mountain or out of an airplane.

There's prep work involved. Lots of it.
That's why spray bedliners aint cheap:)

Every square MM must be sanded. Every spot where there was/is rust…you must apply a rust inhibitor.
You need to apply a primer to at least any bare metal you've exposed.
It all has to be wiped off properly before primer or coatings are applied.
The entire vehicle needs to be masked/wrapped up…except the box inside of course.

I'm not sure what you mean by having the liner protect the bikes???

I have 2 full plastic drop in box liners here btw….$50 and it's anybodies. One is out of an extcab Tacoma and the other from an extcab '92 Dakota.
Cross reference your measurements…chest/hip ratio is important…and pick one up next time you blow thru town:)…if one'll fit.

I used one of the Canadian tire DIY kits inside the tub of my Samurai and it worked great. I think it was called Gator Guard 2.

My Dad just used one in the box of his new Dodge 1/2 ton and it turned out great also.

Yup, remove the rust, apply a rust inhibiing primer and sand the rest lightly.

Remeber to wear gloves as that crap is really hard, almost impossible to wash off.
