Great article: http://thefederalist.com/2014/01/17/the-death-of-expertise/#.VfBbwI-dyos.facebook

My favorite paragraph:

The confidence of the dumb

There’s also that immutable problem known as “human nature.” It has a name now: it’s called the Dunning-Kruger effect, which says, in sum, that the dumber you are, the more confident you are that you’re not actually dumb. And when you get invested in being aggressively dumb well, the last thing you want to encounter are experts who disagree with you, and so you dismiss them in order to maintain your unreasonably high opinion of yourself. (There’s a lot of that loose on social media, especially.)

KenN beat you to it a while back iirc, but thanks for bringing it to light again.

I obviously need to work on my forum searching skills…couldn't find a thread on this.

no, don't worry about it.

Good point.

I'm convinced that I'm dumb, or crazy, or both. That and my stance on various things seems to be cyclical. Basically I'm a total mess.

i've come across people who can legit bitch about the most mundane things , which makes me wonder if they are way way smarter than me , or maybe i'm too dumb to know or care about those things , or maybe they just have enough time and imagination to bitch about things i haven't thought about yet .

i don't spend too much time worrying about it . . .
