This from a guy who has 'Microsoft' branded into his forehead?

Bottom line, if you're not comfortable with multiple OS's, you're not computer literate. You're Windows literate, or whatever.

I find my self more comfertable with OS X. Windows is too buggy and unfluid. And I run more intense software on my mac which has worse specs than my pc.

I see they've really nailed that grammar and spell checking feature.

Given how the intelligentia of this board feel about you, for them this would be far from the best endorsement of a Mac.

I went and played around on a Mac today, and my Mom seemed to like it. It doesn't look like it'll be too big an issue for her, getting used to everything. She's never mastered the PC anyway.

If she buys it in the next two weeks, she gets a free iPod since she's taking some college courses. So that's a bonus.

I wouldn't call knowing how to operate Windows and Mac "multiple OS's", maybe
with Unix in there;) And no I am not "comfortable" with UNIX (I need my cheat
sheet or I'm lost utterly).

Uh, so what would you call it then? Two, but not multiple?

Lets face it, the difference between a Mac and Windows is negligible (ooh, they
put the close/minimize/maximize buttons on the left/right….whoopidy doo).

Sorry, as far as functionality for the daily user, there is no difference. Word for
Mac works the same as word for pc, excel for mac works the same too, PS works
the same, ftp programs work the same. I have yet to find anything that is very
different (In any real way).

The only difference I've found is that the Mac is more stable. Even that is marginally
better for me.

Is a Mac faster? Maybe….but not if you're using the average word/excel programs
and even PS is the same. I don't do video so maybe there's a difference there?

What I was getting at is "knowing" a Mac is the same as "knowing" a PC, even
my 70 y/o mum-in-law can use both….she finds her macbook pro to be "prettier"
than her pc. Hell, even Linux isn't much different (and my mum-in-law has a
Linux box too).

Yes, that's pretty much my point… although most people wouldn't even realise that OS X is a fully-fledged Unix, even if Linux isn't.

Back to my earlier post, I felt a little counter-trolling was called for; but in truth, for every Apple-eyed hippy that switch and Heatmizer have to beat some sense into, I have to cater to the limited skillsets and Redmond-worship of MCSEs and One-True-Way Microsofties who treat any interface that isn't point-and-drool with fear and superstition.

And FWIW, I started my IT career programming embedded OS's (including chip-level hardware drivers) from the ground up - both from 3rd party OS's and from scratch - and after that kind of exposure, yeah, any desktop OS is pretty much the same.
