I can never find a set of headphones like that which don't end up hurting my ears, usually the tops.

Try these Sony's.. It's like having a pillow strapped to your ears, definitely the most comfortable headphones I've ever worn. Plus I got em from Future Shop for ~$70, all with crisp sound and deep bass.

I almost went with a pair in the $80-100 category…so many great reviews as well on certain ones there. But the reviews and the sales pitch on the added features really sold me on making the price jump…especially the live concert depth and the safer listening pressure these are supposed to have

"ULE-technology [HTML_REMOVED] PRO design
PRO headphones have Ultra Low Emission (ULE) technology with significant benefits for professional users. PRO headphones also have a unique design; the PRO appearance not only distinguishes the professional line but also allows a higher degree of transparency in combination with the spatial sense and understanding, due to more ear anatomy area.

To understand what ULE-technology does, you need to know that most headphone drivers produce low-frequency magnetic fields as they convert an electric signal into an acoustical signal that you hear as music. In response, Ultrasone developed a special MU Metal shielding (ULE-technology) to reduce the radiation by up to 98% compared to current headphones. The ULE-technology has stood the test of international review and is recommended by technical surveillance organizations. Ultrasone originally developed the ULE-technology for professionals as they spend half of their lives in headphones. But due to grand requests the, ULE-technology has now been integrated in other Ultrasone headphone lines.

S-Logic Natural Surround Sound
Through the S-Logic Natural Surround Sound the usual headphone sound will be moved out of the head into the room around you. The sound is no longer locked in, but appears broad and detached. Directions and distances can be heard and perceived-it's just like being in a live concert. For this new technology, additional equipment is not required. Take a pair of Ultrasone headphones plus your sound device and you will be ready for the 3-dimensional sound enjoyment.

Safer hearing
S-Logic does not only create a Natural Surround Sound. S-Logic allows, at the same time, a reduction of sound pressure levels by up to 40% (3-4 dB) for the same loudness sensation. This may reduce the risk of hearing damage while ensuring hours of fatigue-free listening. However, Ultrasone generally advises not to listen to music at high volumes to prevent hearing damage."

I have the Shure SE-115 m+ for my iPhone / iPod and Grado Labs SR-60 for around the house. Both have been brilliant. The SR-60's hurt my ears initially but I was able to buy a different set of ear covers and they have been much better.

Some higher end headphones need to be burned in to get better sound, others don't. Check this article: http://news.cnet.com/8301-13645_3-20061153-47.html

Those placed very, very high on the list before I finally placed an order.

grrrr….free shipping or pay $13 for 1-3 days, which I selected. They didn't arrive today so I look into it…apparently, estimated delivery was/is 3-6

Time to find out who is responsible for stealing $13 from me.
