Handle Bar geometry geeks...

Haven't ridden in a while…but I was a die-hard ProTaper guy…I HAD to have the 4 upsweep X 8 backsweep. That's what felt perfect to me. After a few bike builds, I discovered that Easton EA50 and 70's had the same spec, but cost less.

I see now, today, that ProTaper is still the same geo but Easton and a few of the other very popular bars are at 5 and 9

Anyone made the switch from old PT's or EA's to the new 5 X 9 and your review would be????

Cheers:beer:

I'm 5x9 all the way, sunline, deity are the ones I use personally. used to have chromag bars with the 5x8 bend, never liked the feel myself.

I find i can create a nice platform to push the heel of my inside hand against when turning.

Used to be a diehard ea70. Now I run a Sunline V1 and a Haven Carbon, both of which are 5x9. Love the 5x9

Handlebars are wider now, so if you don't plan to cut them down you'll probably like a little more sweep (backsweep anyways).

Trendier!

I had RF Atlas AM, then Sunline V1 on my Nomad, Chromag OSX on my Range, and Havoc Carbons on my Surface.

Can't talk about the older bars, but going from RF Atlas to V1s was a real treat for my hands/wrists.

Unless my google skills are failing, I can't find a Sunline pedally bike site anymore?

Why slag free swag?

ummm, as your doctor i recommend against riding with a scaphoid fracture.

At the same width…you prefered the Suns over the RF?

I prefer bars with more sweep as the occasional tendinitis that pops up in my pinky fingers doesn't happen as often with more sweep. As for width, I've settled on about 30" for now.

I like to think that materials and manufacturing processes have allowed wider bars to meet the strength and weight targets of previous, narrower bars. Because having tried a narrowish bar again, it's horrible. Why did we do that to ourselves for so long?

RF were 700ish. V1s were the older 737s. Was hanging 2 fingers off the sides of the RF. 1/2 a finger off the V1s. Chromags Im at the end caps, but its 8x5

I hope to get some more time on the Havoc Carbon bar as well.

to me the OSX geo is pretty much perfect, but I said it before and I'll say it again, Chromag needs to make some carbon bars

I'm liking the 4 up 8 back of my RF Atlas bar (785mm wide). They are similar to the Chromag (5 up 8 back) but are a hair wider…
