The NSMBA is offering a new program, the Builders Academy, a two-day course on trail building fundamentals including an in-field session.

The next theory session takes place tomorrow, November 6th.

I attended the Spring sessions and put together this article afterward; the fall sessions are already more than half finished. Don't miss out!

For my take on the theory side of the equation, and some photos of the fundamentals in action out on the trails, read on here…

Excellent initiative. Congratulations to everyone who made it happen and may the trail gods be kind to all who attend.

Please let me demonstrate the ride around; really it's no trouble.

I'm bumping this article as the Fall sessions of Builders Academy are starting next week. Still spots open in Tuesday's theory session.

Congrats on the sincerest praise, having North Shore Hikers reach out to you for training on trail maintenance. I hear the theory session went well.

you should cross post this to the trail maintenace forum

We don't know what our limits are, so to start something with the idea of being limited actually ends up limiting us.

I'm signed up for the Oct. 25th session (I think…)

Any details on the Oct. 27th practical session?

I sent in a form/email through the NSMBA site with some questions but didn't get a response.

Thanks to Woodro [HTML_REMOVED] NSMBA for putting on this course.

Lots of good info to learn the theory behind what works and what doesn't work for trails in a temperate rain forest.

Looks like there are 2 more sessions scheduled for November.

Anyone that's building trails should take this free course! No risk, regardless of where you're building. You will learn things that improve the design of your new and existing trails.

(subtle hint there for people still building fall-line trails that turn to chunder in a few years)
