Sunshine Coaster XC and Powell River XC on back to back days could make for an awesome weekend!

I'm looking forward to finally making it over for the Campbell River 50 k as it's the first time in 3 years I'm not working labour day weekend.

Good downhill schedule. Hopefully I will make it to some of those.

May 20 is the date for the Island Cup Race on Mt. Prevost in Duncan. For this race we will only be using preregistration. Why is there no day of registration? We are expecting a great number of people at this event and in order to make our lives easy and the results more accurate, we will be using chip timing.

For those of you who do not know what this is, a small chip is placed on the back of your number plate and there will be a sensor mat at the start and at the finish. As the rider rolls over this mat the sensor mat will detect the chip and tell us exactly when the racer crossed the start line and the finish line.

No more results based on when the person at the finish pushed the button on the stop watch. Results will be more accurate and much faster. No more waiting in the rain for the results and awards at the end of the day.

Rode and raced Prevost for my first time yesterday. Serious props to all the vollies and of course Cowichan Cycles for putting it all together.

The course was surreal; super fast with minimal pedaling with a very good length to sort out the field. I chatted with many other racers and crashes were plentiful although mostly inconsequential. I was lucky enough to have a clean run. Guess I was going too slow! :)

Great job everyone! I'll definitely be back next year.

I hope the series gets more popular and expands.

That new timing system seemed really cool. Anybody have any more info on it? I'm curious if it actually had tenths of a second, as results only showed full seconds? What was the website link that showed the live timing?

As far as the results I was provided with just seconds.

It's a new way of timing on the island, but something we hope to use more. Maybe they can upgrade to 10th/100ths.

They will be timing the "Race within a race" at the BC Bike Race this year.

It's always going to stay grassroots, relaxed, competitive, cheap.

We'll always happily have more racers, so grab some friends and come join us in Parksville for Hammerfest (19th year) on June 3rd. If you want a big trip but an amazing course, Port Alice is June 10th.
