i maintain my bike only when its broken….
i brush my teeth only when they hurt
hahahahaha
how do you clean your bikes?
i lube my chain. For everything else, I don't touch it. Any minor mechanical issues will undoubtedly get much worse if I try to fix them.
i clean with dirt.
Ha Ha! Made you look.

i use this stuff called mr.moto sometimes, works great although it's made for dirtbikes, don't use it too much or it can hav some effect on certain bearings, but great stuff, i use it and then spray down the bike, everything just slides off
mostly i try to wipe/brush off the dirt, sometimes clean the chain with the cleaner from MEC lube the chain
Hit all the spokes with a screwdriver , listen for the tone they make, loose spokes make a dull sound while tight spokes make a high pitch sound, tighten if necessary.Almost every freeride bike that I see would come into the shop had LOOSE spoke tension … probably why so many freeriders kack rims
lube cables from time to time
check for loose screws and bolts, especialy the krank bolts
Any certain reasoning behind not using the hose?
Bearings get toasted with a direct spray of water.
