I'm into fantasy, and I really like Terry Brooks.

All his Shannara books I mean. They get kind of repetitive, but still enjoyable..

I like Isaac Asimov's Robot books too..

WHAT NOVELS DO YOU LIKE???

I usually read military/spy stuff…

- Tom Clancy (even the op center ones not written by him)
- Dale Brown (cool planes and stuff)
- Patrick Robinson (cool subs and stuff)

and a few other authors… basically i get all my Dad's hand-me-down novels, so thats what I read. Haven't been reading much lately, although i started the new Tom Clancy at campbell river.

Second the Tolkien and Asimov, I just got done with the R Daneel Olivaw books and they were excellent. I like the Edgar Rice Burroughs John Carter of Mars series quite a bit, from the early 1900s, and I liked the first two dune prequel books (the Butlerian Jihad series). Dune itself is great, but I haven't read any of Herbert's other Dune books. I love Robert Silverberg's Lord Valentine series: Lord Valentine, Majipoor Chronicles, and Valentine Pontifex. Great Sci-Fantasy, with a suprisingly twisted story arc.

another vote for terry pratchett and discworld

douglas adams' hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy is awesome too.

what i'm reading right now is "the gonzo papers volume 1: the great shark hunt" by hunter s. thompson - it's a collection of his articles and excerpts from books from the 60s and 70s. i guess that counts as a series b/c there's gonzo papers vol. 2 and 3…

edit: oops, that ^^ isn't a novel… oh well…

R. A. Salvatore

The Drow Trilogy
The Icewind Dale Trilogy

and also the wheel of time series and dune.

dune was a good combo of politics, power plays and sci fi.

it took sci fi to the next level IMO as far as the backstory and well rounded characters.

Well, well I been movin' down to Florida.
And I'm gonna bowl me a perfect game.
Well I'm gonna cut off my leg down in Florida, child.
And I'm gonna dance one-legged off in the rain.

Das Boot - Lothar Guenther Buchheim

The Watchers - Dean R. Koontz

"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed.
This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children."
