I am looking for an trunk mounted/hitchless rack for my 2000 Honda Civic Sir 2 door coupe. I picked up an sportrack ( http://www.sportrack.com/a1166 ) from canadian tire, it mounts onto the car fine but it wont fit my two bikes: 04 bighit and 07 norco shore. Any ideas folks?

cheers

Does it not fit because of those bike attachment mounts? Take those off and you should be able to slide your bikes onto the bar (wrap the bars with an old tire) and then use tubes to secure your bikes onto the bars. I used to run mine that way and found it was way easier than using those bike attachments. I also ride a Big Hit.

It's all about fun.

get a cross bar

although that's not the one I'd recommend. There's another kind that is black and has two big clamps that open like a lobster claw. I can't think of the manufacturer.

I don't reccomend this at all guys. Here's why:
The bike beam will lower your bike on the rack, your clearance is going to be rediculous at this point. But mostly, all trunk mount bike racks have a weight limit of 30lbs per bike. Beyond that you will have a very high probability of damaging your car. If you're lucky it will be minor cosmetic scratches (these are un-avoidable) but I've seen trunks bent, and rack hooks pulled through trucnks causing major damage.

Trunk mount bike racks are made for infrequant, short trips, of light bikes. period.
