Expanding on my above ‘comment’ … a good reviewer provides an insight into who they are as a rider, and builds trust and understanding with their readers over years of clear and honest feedback.  I feel like there are two ways to get a lot from a review… either 1) identify with the author as someone with similar preferences and needs, and take direct feedback.  Or 2) learn about the differences between yourself and the reviewer, and filter their feedback through that lens.  If I’m seriously considering a new bike purchase, I’m doing plenty of both… as well as (hopefully) finding an opportunity to demo that bike on terrain similar to what I normally ride.
