Monthly Wallpaper: August 2023

Photos Deniz Merdano

Once upon a time, we used to post wallpapers that could be downloaded for use on your screens at home. We liked it, so we brought the idea back. For the landscape/desktop version, the calendar days and dates are included, whereas the portrait/mobile version just has the image so your phone's screen will be less cluttered.

Give 'em a try and let us know in the comments if anything is less than perfect - OR if you want to tell Deniz and Graham how much you love the shot.

Great idea, looking forward to seeing what images you come up with. Maybe don't just do one, do a few so there's some choice, like maybe to appeal to the various sort of disciplines of riding, XC, Trail, FR etc.

Nice image, great angle, although bet that slab is a lot steeper than the image makes it look. Saying that, maybe "same" shot, but from different angles.

Photo is great, and love the idea of having a monthly one... but can we get one without the white border so that it can actually fill the screen?

I hear you. The white border actually helps it fit a variety of screen sizes. Your PC or device may have a 'fit to screen' function which could help with that.

Unfortunately because the white border is part of the image, and the image is the same aspect ratio (16:9) as most (non Mac) standard screens, fit to screen doesn't have any effect. I understand the desire to help it fit to multiple aspect ratios nicely, if the border is required for that purpose, could you make it black instead?

** I cropped out the border to solve my own problem, but I still think a black border would be nicer

We're going to play around with a few different options. I can provide a link to an image that fits your needs - whag screen size are you trying to fit? I'll see what I can do.

I vote for a few different standard screen sizes, 1280x720, 1920x1080, 2560 x 1440 and then original size for those who wish rez.

Also if we're asking, like the idea of the actual calendar, but to me it doesn't stand out enough on this try, maybe bold the font and thicken the lines a bit - if you're going to do it, make it very visible, IMHO.

Also, do/would you like to try user submited photos as well to get a bit of variety from maybe other places around the world?

MS Paint, copy/pasta/move/save, done.  The terrible white border is gone.

Thanks NSMB!  It was time to replace my Rampage cliff background with something local.

Where's that?  Awesome shot.  How'd they achieve that angle?

This line lives deep in the woods of Stanley Park :)

Deniz flew his drone for this one, allowing for the wild angle on this feature.

Turned out super dope.  The rider colour contrast makes it pop nicely

The only possible location is right near the Lions Gate Bridge!  Why not just film it off the bridge?
