If you've got a hardtail just get some faster rolling rubber. They make great "gravel" bikes if you are not racing or pretending to on your phone.

Works with a full suspension too.
Hmmm not a bad idea. Would transition nicely into bikepacking rig too. :)

For sure. A lot of bikepacking is just gravel riding that stretches into multiple days.

Yeah I've been a dot follower for years. I have the cuddlies for Lael Wilcox although I don't think I'm her type. I would love to do that route at NON-race pace. Take a month or 2.

I've bicycle toured down the Baja on Hwy 1 [paved] which was fun and I've ridden dualsport motos down and back through dirt roads. It would be fun to see some more remote places on a bicycle.
I’ve seen some YouTube vids on baja bike packing. Looks great.
Hey Vik, all the talk about Pipedream's Moxie and Sirius in the Hardtail thread has me drooling over their A.L.I.C.E. The tire clearance, geo, good looks and steel fork option appeal to me as a potential drop-bar adventure bike.

Folks seem to really like them. They even seem to be in stock in the sizes I checked [M + L]. My interactions with Pipedream and their products have all been excellent.

I’m considering converting my old school Karate Monkey to gravel duties. Currently have 29er Velocity Blunt rims. Any suggestions for a decent gravel tire for my big rims?
That's pretty much what I did - although I stopped seriously mountain biking after the second pregnancy. Just didn't have the time and I was tired of getting hurt/breaking my bike all the time. I like gravel biking because its pretty much aligned with the kind of mountain biking I did when I got into the sport in the 80's and my cycling morphed mainly into drop bar bikes about 15 years ago.
You could totally "gravelize" a hardtail or XC bike, but if you want the speed / efficiency of a gravel bike you will be disappointed. I gravellized a 90's hybrid to see if I would like it so that's another option for you. Drop bar conversions of fully rigid 26'ers is another thing people are doing. I tried that with an 89 Ritchey Ultra and it was fun too.
