Cam's Gifts for Mountain Bikers 2021 - Dec. 16, 2021, 8:46 a.m.

Wow, that's a better design.

I tried mine and a buddies oneups and neither of them worked, had to wrap it with electrical tape to get it to seal in an emergency. Later I trimmed a better fitting grommet to jam into the pump, and now it works fine.

I've been running Fillmore + Cushcore. Another deficiency not mentioned here is that you can't inject sealant through the valve with this setup. I also thought about cutting a notch, didn't think about the insert spinning. I was contemplating some kind of stint where the valve touches the insert, cutting up a Lego with a Dremel and jamming it in there, but here you introduce risks of clogging with sealant.

Anyone also found these valves to be picky about what pump they mate with? My oneup pump is too loose of a fit. I had to find a different grommet to make it work. The valves are pretty skinny.

Lessons from the Trek Sustainability Report - Oct. 13, 2021, 11:03 a.m.

It would be nice if the carbon costs were printed on product labels and there were some government agency certifying that the parent corporation met the minimum effort to achieve accuracy in those estimates. If this existed it would definitely impact my consumer choices.

Formula Selva C Fork - July 28, 2021, 9:04 a.m.

So, for the keyed damper and air shafts, do you have to align them in a special way before inserting back into the lowers? I like the idea of not having to get the mallet out, but wonder how it goes in practice.

SR Suntour TriAir Rear Shock - Feb. 25, 2021, 10:09 a.m.

It’s interesting to consider how they are the manufacturer forth both rockshox and dvo

The bladder was a selling point for me. One less dynamic seal. Also, not having to dig out a number for ifp depth is nice. I bet it can handle the transition from compression to rebound more quickly too given. Is fragile during rebuild however

I wonder if the topaz bladder could be a drop in replacement for the IFP on this thing. Bargain topaz. Conversely, the DVO air seals are overpriced, and if these were cheaper, it’d be a nice topaz hack

Specialized's 2FO Roost Flat Shoes Reviewed - Feb. 13, 2021, 12:51 p.m.

I found there was a break-in period with these shoes. In particular they pinched in a weird spot that I've never had issues with before. Internet diagrams indicate it's the base of the 5th (pinky toe) metatarsal. So outboard just in front of the heel. Took about a dozen rides of being very careful with the lace tension

Leatt 2.0 Flat Pedal Shoes - Dec. 23, 2020, 7:38 a.m.

Thanks, generally it would be interesting to make a gif or something of a shoes degradation over time where each frame is a month of riding

Leatt 2.0 Flat Pedal Shoes - Dec. 22, 2020, 10:40 a.m.

I find that tread patterns that don't have big chunky lugs tend to get shredded fairly quickly. This is what drove me away from the Shimano GR7s, they just didn't hold up relative to big fiveten dots or similar patterns. This pattern looks to be in the dainty tread realm, can you share a picture of what they look like after X months or riding?

Canfield Crampon Ultimate and Mountain Flat Pedals - Nov. 28, 2020, 6:45 p.m.

I just don’t get the concave pedal paradigm. I tried vaults with my impact pros and my feet were just flying off where they were locked on with oneups, a supposedly convex pedal. Maybe less stiff shoes conform to concave pedals better?

Is Cushcore Preferable to a Heavier Tire Casing? - Oct. 30, 2020, 12:16 p.m.

I tried Tannus for three months this summer and noticed that for a given pressure they would audibly bottom out relative to the Rimpact I had on prior and Cushcore I had on it the past. They also added a noticeable substantial wobble and imbalance that could be felt while coasting on roads. Perhaps there is a way to massage them into shape, but I was not successful at this, and couldn't figure out how to align them. I think the inserts that lock onto the rims center channel have an advantage in this regard, less faffing. When I did get a sidewall cut, I noticed sealant didn't flow as freely to it no matter how much I added.

Riding the New Vorsprung Secus - Aug. 5, 2020, 10:49 a.m.

You could also envision custom lowers with space for this device, though I hear that the magnesium casting is the most costly component to manufacture?

Riding the New Vorsprung Secus - Aug. 5, 2020, 10:41 a.m.

Why not just have a shock pump style hose connected to the footnut valve? This would enable a greater variety of positions. For example, you could have a custom brake bracket with a position to mount the Secus above the caliper, and aligned with the lateral axis of the caliper so that it is good and protected?
