I was told by a local builder that using a chainsaw, perpendicular the the rungs will do the job.

Worked great, don't know about long term, but traction would be as good as new now.
Socket extension worked as nail set.
Not easy work, but just 1/2 hour for 8 foot bridge.
The bridge dumbing down will continue on other trails.

I am similar type climber that just went from 26" -24-36 to 650b - oval 30-44. I only notice the tougher gear on steep roads like the backside of Burke which I believe is 11 percent grade. It's been a while since I've climbed old buck. I am going to try to stay with the 30 to keep the antisquat lower. Some other things need to be considered as well like change in bike weights and geo.

Too many forums and other places to post bike related comments, pictures or have discussions = diluted content everywhere.
Imagine if all that was on just a few forums…..like it use to be.

Looks like a week of rain in the forecast. If you choose to ride in the rain/wet please make wise choices in the trails you ride unless you want the trails to turn to crap, or be rocked, top to bottom like many shore trails, providing people are actually willing to do that.

I'm hoping to get another summer on my 420 hour rfs top end, 2007 450 exc.
Still 3 turns left on valves and not going through a ton of oil.
I should have drove it down to DH when the dollar was at par.
At this point just dont know if Its worth it to rebuild or just get a slightly used 500.

Not enough rides yet to comment on suspension. And I'm not a suspension geek. If it goes down and doesn't bob around, it works for me.

No need to be a geek. There is a lot of easily understood information available to help people make a wiser choice, dropping coin on a bike regarding suspension. There are even videos that show you how to make it not bob around. This guy has some very good, easily understood vids.

Very nice reign you have, I almost bought a new one 6 months ago but came to the conclusion an enduro bike just wasn't for me.

Just ordered some tubes for this today.

The geo on this isn't final, but it's allowed me to work out the kinematics on the linkage.

Lots of stuff to work out in cad for the linkage and the shock mount/pivot/bb/downtube junction.

That's taking suspension geek to the next level, very cool. Linkage driven single pivot? Looks like just over 100 percent antisquat, looking at the pivot location. Just moving the frame shock mount location a few milometers makes a difference in progression rate does it not? Almost makes me want to go buy a welder.

Agreed, 3 of 4 Troy builds come w/30T rings so dropping to 28 shouldn't be that far off their design parameters.

Yeah, even by the #'s it ain't much different from the Scout.

Scout has a different design and much lower antisquat.
If you are referring to the geometry, you should be looking at that before you pick a suspension design. That's a whole other subject.

That was the conclusion those people who do the Bible of Bike Tests came to, and concerns me a bit as I tend to doodle more than throw-down when I ride. So how, I wonder, do you on that platform?

What they are referring to is the progression rate, which is how difficult it is to use all the travel due to the design and the shock. That is totally different than antisquat and pedal feedback. Most of the reviews I read were spot on to my experience. If you are riding the shore even at slower speeds you should be ok. Run the shock with no volume reducers so it doesn't ramp up as much and you can use all the travel, and if you want an even more linear feel put a coil on.

Also if you are running clipless it obviously helps in keeping you feet from getting bounced off the pedals.

So a 32x46 is 18.8 and I struggle w/a 26x42 wonder how close to the 18.0 of the 28x42 the 30x46 is or I could even get away with 28x46 and not induce much pedal feedback w/a split pivot I reckon got a link to that chart?

If your concerned about pedal kickback, its personal taste. I've tried a few different suspension designs and like a higher antisquat (for all mountain) myself. A larger chainring will reduce it to a small degree if you are going up or down 2 teeth. If you don't like a little feedback you may need a different platform (bike) with lower anti squat, 2 teeth isn't going to make a lot of difference.

If the troy is the sp bike you are interested in, I am surprised after 6 or so hard rides I've had so far with mine, chunder, flat landings, to tough tech climb's, I notice virtually no feedback. All the suspension design charts are great info, but the difference in quality of the different suspensions is small. IE: lots of really good bikes right now.

With its high anti squat and progression rate this bike favors more aggressive riders, so your answer is yes, it is a girls bike.

It sports a 200x51mm shock, as far as I can tell.

Would one be able to mount a 200x57mm and NOT have some catastrophic failure under full compression?

From what I've read the seat stay brace contacts the seat tube. The only occasion I would want more travel with this bike is in a park. That's just personal preference.
