e*thirteen TRSr Carbon Cranks - Feb. 27, 2017, 7:50 a.m.

As with other brands there are awesome aftermarket rings available for the e13 cranks. AbsoluteBlack and Wolf Tooth (Camo) both have options for example.

If I was king of the bike world everyone would use SRAM's three-bolt direct mount system; however, that will never happen. In light of that e13's system is not inherently better/worse than any of the similar lock-ring DM setups.

I've been playing with running a 30t and 32t ring. It maybe takes 5-minutes to find the tools, remove the cranks, swap the ring, and re-install. That's at the most.

I have no experience with Hope's cranks so I can't comment on them being more complicated. If they are they should look at e13's tool set.

Did they come with the chainring pre-installed? In that case, ring comes loose shame on them; ring comes loose again shame on you.

The ring doesn't come installed on the e13 cranks so if it comes loose there's only one person to blame - in this case me.

Nah, if I was going to write a kids book I'd collaborate with Perry on The Adventures of Chunder Pig (and her sidekick Gnar Goat).

Full credit to Cam for that line.

No ETA, sorry. I do know from Interbike that it is in the works.

2017 Kona Wozo - Feb. 23, 2017, 6:32 p.m.

I didn't try it, but there is so much clearance I'd be surprised if the Wozo couldn't fit a 4.8 Jumbo Jim out back. It may require the drop outs to be set mid-to-long (still short rear center).

Just echoing this… 29+ is awesome and while there may not be a million tire options there are some very good ones; love my Minion DHF 3c

X-Fusion Manic Dropper Post - Feb. 20, 2017, 10:49 a.m.

The elephant missing from the room is definitely a unique Shimano designed/made/branded dropper from the biggest-S.

I'm also surprised that CaneCreek has released a dropper post remote but not their own post (I have no inside information that would suggest this comment is foreshadowing… but come on).

Lastly, I find it challenging to reason why Cannondale hasn't leveraged their experience making one-sided mountain bike forks (needle bearings / awesome hydraulic lockout) to make a wicked dropper post. If space is the issue then get on the 35mm ID seat tube train and don't look back.

But yes…

.

Thanks Rob!

X-Fusion USA will have them the first week of March. In stock at retail partners ASAP after that.

I've heard beginning of March (~ a week away) and also that they're shipping. I've asked for a confirmation from X-Fusion.

Safety second as they say. Time to upgrade to Super 3R?

I ran a pair of Specialized Slaughters with the same thought. They were awesome + anywhere XC rubber is awesome.

They were not awesome anywhere front braking down steeps was desirable.

Total hipster. No question. 3/3 appellate court judges say you have to wear your girlfriend's jeans with exactly two rolls at the bottom and ALWAYS inside your Blundstones so other hipsters can see they're authentic.

I'm curious what helmet you run that can accommodate your man-bun? Guess you're not too concerned about MIPS?

.

BB height is definitely the issue - even with some frames "designed" to run both sizes. Especially since the 27+ tires are smaller than 29'er to begin with AND sag more (lower air pressures).

The safe bet seems to be to buy a 27+ bike that can fit 29'er wheels vs. the opposite. The example I used was buying a Big Honzo and running 29'er wheels vs. riding a Honzo and running 27+. The standard Honzo with 27+ has a crazy low BB.

Walt's works are high quality utilitarian tools in a world of bespoke bicycle artistry. I love the stuff he posts on Instagram.

I also found him easy to work with and very practical.

Post some pics when your bike is built!
