Re: Official Coast Gravity Park thread

Rode Coast last weekend. What a cool spot. Love that it’s so chill. Shuttle up. Ride down. Grab shuttle back up.

Love that the lunch is so casual too. What a refreshing change to the WBP way of doing things.

Things that I hope they address over time:

That road

More tech trails would be better. I rode dynamite panther 6 or 7 times and the Devils Elbow and HJ line over and over. It would be super easy to scratch in some loamers and control their traffic by rotation which are open.

My son who loves flow and jump lines was in heaven.

Re: Cypress Sex Girl - Alternate Exit

Yeah that’s a good lap but I’d sneak off of Blind Skier to SGS and then to Slippery.

Instead of Upper Tall Cans (which is one of my fav all time trails) you can also hit Roach Clip and then go do Roach Hit.

Re: Do you support or agree with the nationwide Protests?

I generally support all legal protests. These are not legal.

JT needs to stop being a pu$$y about this too - patience? Nonsense. The problem will solve itself if the protestors hear train whistles getting closer.

Re: NSMB - 2020 - Hardtail Thread

This is my year for a HT. I’m cooking up something that I’m pretty excited about!

I’m finally doing it - just a matter of whether Plan A happens or B or C.

I can’t wait!

Re: Trump.

So much bickering. It’s really as simple as Trump was a criminal before he ran for Office. His behaviour hasn’t changed and the crimes have continued while in Office.

The only real question I have is what happens to him after office. I think that his world will change. He won’t be the fly under the radar bumbling fool real estate developer/reality TV persona that is allowed to carry on because most people don’t take him seriously and are laughing at him.

I’ve said it a million times - the biggest crimes are still to come - I bet that he tries to change the rules so he can stay in office indefinitely. Staying in office is his best and possibly only protection from prosecution and he knows it.

Re: Cypress Sex Girl - Alternate Exit

Yes change from the status quo isn’t my favorite idea either but, given the circumstances, I’m happy that the changes are minimized as much as possible.

Actually, the changes are terrible - don’t ride Cypress!!!!

Cypress Sex Girl - Alternate Exit

Lets have a moment of silence for the original exit of Sex Girl but be happy that we can still ride 95% of the trail.

If you have ridden SG in the last year, you would not have missed the amount of construction at the bottom of the trail as you approach Cypress Bowl Road in the area of the step up.

To allow riders to ride lower SG but not enter the construction zone, an alternate exit was cut just uphill of the zone in 2019. Unfortunately, a recent change to the surveying/plans for the road that is being put in that immediate area warrants another change as it impacts that exit.

As you approach now, you will see on riders right a NEW Alternate Exit that is about 50m higher up the hill than the previous exit. You need to take that because the trail below that is now officially closed and will be fenced off (if it isnt already). The construction is fierce and its not safe to have riders in that area (or fair to the workers in that area), plus, its not worth the slog through the construction - there is nothing left of the lower trail to ride anyways so take the new ride out - LOAM!!!!! I have heard from those who have ridden it that it works well.

Losing the step up is a bummer BUT SG is still the same above the new exit and I think that we should all consider that a win. Thankfully we didnt lose lower SG - just the bottom few feet of it.

Enjoy your Cypress ripping! There are certainly some changes in the area of the first switchback but its still glorious - suns out - go ride Cypress.

Re: BC Family Vacation

If you're coming all that way with wife and kid in tow, I would have two stops: Vancouver where the family will have tons to do and you will have all the riding you want to fit in on the SHore, and Whistler.

I think that you'll regret if you opt for cheaper/off the beaten path locations. You're coming out with USD - have a great time!

Vancouver is a great city. Whistler is an epic mountain resort area. Make sure you see them both. You can rent a DH bike for Whistler one day if you want (seems nuts not to try the park for a day if you are close), and you can ride local trails as well.

You will never want to go home but Ill warn you, the hills will hurt. You dont have hills like these out east.

Re: Trump.

If I were Trump Id be calling my Russian friends to hack the Democratic primaries so that Id win those too. Guaranteed win in 2020 - Trump versus Trump. Only thing that changes is the color of his tie.

Re: Why did cush core have to be so good?

I havent tried CC yet but can see the theoretical benefits, especially on a hardtail.

Im getting closer to pulling the trigger on a hardtail and Im also thinking that 29+ may be the way to go there.

Re: Wuhan Coronavirus

I’d like to know what the updated Ro is - the confirmed rate is moving exponentially but I wonder what that second derivative is of late. There’s certainly a lag between measures put in place to slow/halt transmission and symptoms - so the confirmed rate today is probably the result of what was happening a week ago.

Scary but like the above news link says: unprecedented early action.

No one in Africa has this? Agree there’s probably under reporting in some countries but perhaps travel to and from China is mainly to other developed nations.

Re: Wuhan Coronavirus

Super interesting journal article hit my desk a few minutes ago, fresh off the press:

https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa2001316?query=RP

Seems, at least at the time of the writing, that average transmission rate (Ro) was 2.2, meaning for every person infected, it was transmitted to 2.2 people. This isnt TERRIBLE and was before measures were put in place to contain the virus - so its likely lower now. Im hearing that streets are empty in heavily impacted areas - all signs (that I have seen) is that China is taking this one very seriously.

Average incubation period is 5-12 days, with a mean of just over 7.

Read the article knowing that:

1) The last datapoint I saw from it was Jan 20th - amazing that this hit print in just over a week from last data collection.

2) Look at how fast they closed the Seafood market - incredible how quickly i) they realized that this was a new virus, and ii) isolated it to the seafood market. I think that this shows just how far China has come on this matter since SARS.

You can also watch the spread real time here: https://gisanddata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/bda7594740fd40299423467b48e9ecf6

It might be slowing. We will know more soon.
