I am supposed to go at a special time when staff is not grumpy, to make it easy for them to help me?? I wont name the bad ones but I've never had crap service at John Henry or Steed. There are a couple of north shore shops where they will offer customer service if they think you look hard core enough. I'm sure everyone knows who that is….
I once walked into one of the bike shops on Lonsdale with the cash (yes cash! Obviously prior to having kids!) in my pocket and ended up going to Steed instead. No way am I kissing your ass for the pleasure of handing you 5K!

It will be a long time before there is any real money in our sport. Look at the link to compare what surfers make on the pro tour after what, five decades?, of pro surfing. And this is on the mainstream (mostly boring) tour, not the big wave dudes who are surviving on meager sponsorship if anything. Top surfer (if a quick google research yields a roughly correct result) is only making 1.5 or so and that dwindles exponentially. If you aren't in it for the fun and the glory you will likely be sadly disappointed.

Yeah Cam was clearly pretty emotional there, I think Rampage has been pretty good to him no? His winning run was the only reason a lot of people will remember his name for many years to come.

I agree with a lot of what Steve said, not like we didn't see this coming. Look at the sharp end of Rock Climbing and Surfing, there is a body count far bigger than there is in Mountain biking and there are even more guys doing the dangerous stuff with little or no compensation. Considering the segments we have been enjoying for the last few years I am stunned this hasn't happened sooner. When it's all said and done things may change at rampage but regardless the guys that want to make a buck or make an indelible mark will, no, MUST, keep pushing the envelope. Those are the ones we watch.

Good thoughts Cam, but you can use that argument for all crime, we are all human and that makes us all a mere hairs breadth away from from saying and doing regrettable and possibly criminal things. The point is that we do not all do these things. And that is a distinction that must never be overlooked. Civil Society takes work on all parts and if we excuse this type of behavior by saying that it was a moment of weakness and could happen to anyone the whole thing comes tumbling down. The good and the bad involved in these riots should and will pay their due. The good ones will pick up, dust off, learn from that mistake and hit the trail a better rider.
