I don’t think that’s the right takeaway. The companies that are advocating for shorter offsets here think they work better for their respective bike geometries. Read Lars’ entry again. For the bikes Transition has designed, that’s not the sound of a guy that thinks that decreased offset (and the resulting trail figure) is “not really significant”. I’m building a Geometron and I purchased a short offset fork, mostly because Chris Porter has forgotten more about bikes this week than I have rolodexed. Will I notice the fork offset nearly as much as moving from a 480mm reach to 535? Likely not.  If I were buying a YT I probably wouldn't have made the same decision. I had a choice, and that’s a good thing.

The below doesn't make it sound easy if you're not a business or trail organization.  Do you consider the process uniformly fair for anyone who applies for a permit?

I love the Uncle Dave contributions and as usual I think the content was on point.  However, I think you let Fildo off easy.  Dude sends you a note about how he has a great wife and smart kids.  Fildo suggests that he is very funny, a great employee, with a nice sense of humor.  I’m thinking to myself, this has to be sarcasm, right?  Then he cites his riding prowess .  Fildo deserves a cast for the broken arm he suffered while patting himself on the back, but instead you’ve promptly rewarded him with a Loam Ranger jacket that is bound to be the envy of his riding group.  Uncle Dave nailed the following:

As a point of clarification, I think the important verb here is showing.  Before recognizing imperfection in others, it’s probably more important to identify our own.  If you’re in a position where your envy of travel photographers is causing you to question your choices, another trip to the Chilcotins with an expensive camera (to fill your Instagram with beauties) is not going to solve your problem.

I guess you're right. It's definitely hard to find specifics.

Here is a Metro Regional Parks regulation document that spells out some specifics. This would cover many trails that I ride. See part 10.

The contents of my pack is usually dependent on how deep the ride is. That said, I always carry 9, 10, and 11 speed power links to help speed up the occasional chain break. I ride alone much of the time, so I also carry 3 bear bangers and a pen launcher. Nice to be able to sound louder than your group size.

The jumps would be a deal breaker for me as well. Even on 1×11, I often find myself searching for smaller intervals (to no avail). I’m sure it would be perfectly suitable for some. I wonder if we’re not moving in the direction of “design your own custom drivetrain”. You want 1×12 with smaller jumps on the low end? Login and configure:-)

I can understand not making a small but why no XXL? I was expecting sizing to stay similar to the Tallboy/Highball. I wonder how the 6’1 and 6’6 crew will dig this bike.

So was just having a chat with someone about the grizzly factor a few days ago in the Chilcotins. Have a friend who was bluff charged near Eldorado cabin a few years back. 

This is the first attack on a rider there I have heard of.... Not too far from Spruce lake...

I just got back from a 4-day self-supported tour on Friday.  I've done 3-4 day tours almost every year since 2014.  This doesn't really surprise me.  There are 200+ Grizzlies in the park and even if you make as much noise as you can, there are so many blind areas.  It was really just a matter of time.  There were also a ton of people in the park this year, or at least way more than I'd seen in the past.  It just seems like a bit of a numbers game.  More people, mean more encounters.  New docks, pit toilets, bear caches, picnic tables, trail work, etc.  My money is on more people visiting the park in the near future.  It's just my two cents, but these things seem a bit counter to keeping a healthy wildlife population.

My group met a hiker while staying at Lorna that had a run-in on Wednesday with a mother and yearling that were hanging around Lorna/Elbow Pass.  She had a surprise encounter and met them at close range while cresting Lorna pass.  She ended up letting out a puff of bear spray to send the bears back over the pass, so she could retreat.  My buddy and I came in Relay and the group ahead of ours saw a grizzly in a meadow about halfway into the Relay trail.  We talked to some people that had seen a grizzly up on Manson Creek trail.  Our group ran into a bear that we spotted early about 100m off, close to the Tyax Bear Paw camp.  We waited him out until he was done eating.  The place is special but it does seem like the park would benefit from fewer visitors.  Would definitely be curious to hear what others think.

Literally no one was wearing a mask in the village outside the lift lines. I was really disappointed tbh. The village was slammed with people to the point social distancing was not viable and no one except myself and a very small handful of others were wearing masks. 

I went into the village Saturday to grab some food.  In addition to the lack of masks, the "I'm here to fucking party crowd" had definitely showed up in numbers.  Hope the park stays open during phase 2...

Not sure if this has been posted here yet but WORCA is trying to raise money for the upper half of Chipmunk Rebellion. Flowy descent that extends LOTS to the valley floor. Given the hordes of people that ride LOTS, you'd think more than 49 people could find a couple of extra bucks.

Total bullshit. His space is constantly full of industry folks. People that know, know. Dude is managing all of the suspension tunes for Norco! You like the new Norco Sight and associated suspension setup guide...Arthur was a major part of both.  IMO, an amazing resource.

Then you should understand that when you pay thousands a year in taxes how some may be pissed off when six months a year they come home from work and can’t park anywhere near their house. So much of this me me me attitude.

You got me dying...residents can't park anywhere near their house 6 months out of the year???  Space is at a premium now.  We should all be nice and respectful to each other.  The parking lot will open again :-)

I saw they just added that so I've deleted my post. I chatted with someone over Facebook at DNV that gave me opposite info.

I have personally admitted 3 patients to hospital this week that I was sure were going to be COVID - all looked pretty shitty with high fevers and respiratory symptoms. All had high ferritin and LDH with normal white blood cell count and low lymphocytes (supposed to be the calling card of COVID). They all had influenza. But we have found COVID in the community, it is going around and unless you isolate, you will perpetuate it. If you want to go riding, stay away from other riders and don't hang out in the parking lot.

Those of you that think that you will be fine, you are probably right. But the pregnant lady, or the guy on chemo or the old lady with COPD or heart failure that you infect won't be so lucky. Be smart. Follow the rules. I have a patient with zero immune system. If they get COVID, they will die. They have been living with no immune system for a year and I have treated them for multiple infections but COVID would probably ravage them and we would have nothing to treat with. Imagine being that person, holed up praying not to be infected and meanwhile your neighbours are acting like it doesn't matter what they do. Think of the people not so lucky as you and follow the damn rules. You will not be the one treating a ward full of COVID patients, that is my job. The least you can do is keep some distance from everyone else.

Thanks for the post.  I just don't think people understand the severity of the situation.  My mom and sister in law are in the line of fire down in the Seattle area.  The world has lost 40 medical staff to date.  Yesterday, 300 doctors in BC signed a letter pleading with people to stay home.  I'm sympathetic to the individual needs of soothing the mind in order to cope, but it's crucial to practice distancing now.

Biking in groups, running in groups, nearly no one observing social distancing recommendations. Business as usual at Interriver park as well. It's no different in Vancouver.
