App. 80g lighter than a 170 turbine with a 30t give or take. I can confirm the Turbines can take a hell of a lot of abuse. This is my first set of ALu cranks in a long time, and looking at the deep gouges from a couple stacks this summer...I'll happily continue to use them. And only about $200CAD retail, hard to beat.
The real question is, should one risk showing up at a FIVER without carbon??? ;-)

The Sentinel doesn't have floppy steering at all. Zero flop, zero lift and wandering on steep switchback corners. It's a Slack AF bike that noodles up hill very well. It's a 64 degree HA bike that is very reasonable to ride All Mountain.
Sure maybe the numbers don't make sense on a beer coaster, but they just work. Lars isn't an engineer but apparently he has a good sense of what works. Same with Chris Porter. And it really does beg the question....if it's a rider feel thing, who's opinion carries more weight, shredder 'market manager' or engineers? There is a whole lot of blind trust in engineers in the bike industry. I know in Aerospace it's a daily struggle for our engineers to see the forest for the trees!

Umm he's pretty objective basing his arguments on his research in Carbon. As an Aviation guy first starting out with the absolute shite job of doing composite repairs, BVID is a very real thing. Remember that Santa Cruz video where they were smashing that Nomad with a hammer? I would have liked to see the inside of that downtime after they cut it in half.

Why yes, yes it is!! For example 020 could have up to 14 on electrical connectors. On the flip side, less twists for 032 and 041. If the later is Inconel even 6-8 is very very very (physically) hard to do as it's grabby and breaks easy 8-)
IF you want to go full nerd, 6-8 twists per inch on your little tails ;-)

Nice to see this kit out there! Question, can the fork be put back to air successfully? Back in the day when guys converted Air to Coil (ghetto conversion) the inside of the stanchion stood to get a bit marked up from the spring which could cause issues with the air shaft if one ever wanted to switch back.
I just ordered a Sentinel frameset. Had a fair amount of choices for forks from them, opted for a fox factory 36. Their pricing is a bit better than last year as well. Also DVO said they were offering new low offset lower next year as an upgrade. I've used a 46m offset and a 51mm offset on my Smuggler. The steering is absolutely calmer with the 46. It's not a big change in mm and not on a bike with much reach, but back to back I could notice the difference in trail. Good stuff
The Hightower LT has a bloody slack STA with the fork at 160, I'm looking forward to the Sentinel review. The geo isn't earth shattering like a Geometron, but it's heading in the right direction...
If you use a bottle in your frame, I highly recommend From High Above hips packs. I have his original and the latest version (which has a bottle holder). They fit incredibly, very low profile, and the strapping is superb. I've have a Camelback Hydration hip pack in the past, and while I don't really have any issues with the strapping coming loose, the weight of 1.5L of water is too much in such a small package. For me it overhangs a bit too much and will bounce a bit which causes it to ride up off my boney hips....then it really bounces haha
As somebody that has been through proprietary low spoke count wheels (SRAM, Easton etc). They are great initially- light (obviously--low spoke count!), stiff and lively. But IF you lose a spoke charging in harsh terrain, good luck. From experience, all it takes is one spoke to go to weaken the wheel....
Too bad Canada just gets the Jelly Belly edition, black looks great! And you don't even need to be asking for SRAM Ultimates Perry, just the RSCs would suffice:-) Great write up!
