The Ten Laws Of Loam - June 26, 2018, 12:37 p.m.

THANK YOU for putting this up again this year!

2. Still happens on the local mountains, you know who you are!

11. If you are a business owner stop Intstagramming your fresh loamer daily.  If it's meant to be we will stumble upon it ;-)

:-)

Short Fork Offset - What's It Good For? - June 19, 2018, 12:21 a.m.

The Sentinel doesn't have floppy steering at all.  Zero flop, zero lift and wandering on steep switchback corners.  It's a Slack AF bike that noodles up hill very well.  It's a 64 degree HA bike that is very reasonable to ride All Mountain.

Sure maybe the numbers don't make sense on a beer coaster, but they just work.  Lars isn't an engineer but apparently he has a good sense of what works. Same with Chris Porter.  And it really does beg the question....if it's a rider feel thing, who's opinion carries more weight, shredder 'market manager' or engineers?  There is a whole lot of blind trust in engineers in the bike industry.  I know in Aerospace it's a daily struggle for our engineers to see the forest for the trees!

Dollars to donuts Pole will have a short offset in the future.  Just like the onset of 27.5 wheels.....all the early critique ends with.....;-)

An Aerospace Perspective on Carbon - Jan. 30, 2018, 11:15 p.m.

Umm he's pretty objective basing his arguments on his research in Carbon.  As an Aviation guy first starting out with the absolute shite job of doing composite repairs, BVID is a very real thing.  Remember that Santa Cruz video where they were smashing that Nomad with a hammer?  I would have liked to see the inside of that downtime after they cut it in half.

Why Would Anyone Buy Carbon Wheels?* - Dec. 30, 2017, 2:52 p.m.

I'm going to get some WAO rims this Spring as well.  That being said, your $$ still went BC jobs when you got your Nobl wheelset.  Hey I guess you are spreading the love:-)

Ditch Your Lock-On Grips - Nov. 24, 2017, 10:42 a.m.

Why yes, yes it is!! For example 020 could have up to 14 on electrical connectors.  On the flip side, less twists for 032 and 041.  If the later is Inconel even 6-8 is very very very (physically) hard to do as it's grabby and breaks easy 8-)

Ditch Your Lock-On Grips - Nov. 24, 2017, 9:54 a.m.

IF you want to go full nerd, 6-8 twists per inch on your little tails ;-)

Nice work!

How To: Convert your Fox 36 to Coil with Push ACS3 - Oct. 19, 2017, 1:28 p.m.

Cheers, I should have read between the lines haha ;-)

How To: Convert your Fox 36 to Coil with Push ACS3 - Oct. 19, 2017, 9:51 a.m.

Nice to see this kit out there!  Question, can the fork be put back to air successfully?  Back in the day when guys converted Air to Coil (ghetto conversion) the inside of the stanchion stood to get a bit marked up from the spring which could cause issues with the air shaft if one ever wanted to switch back.

Transition SBG - From The Source - Aug. 26, 2017, 12:53 p.m.

I just ordered a Sentinel frameset. Had a fair amount of choices for forks from them, opted for a fox factory 36. Their pricing is a bit better than last year as well.  Also DVO said they were offering new low offset lower next year as an upgrade. I've used a 46m offset and a 51mm offset on my Smuggler. The steering is absolutely calmer with the 46.  It's not a big change in mm and not on a bike with much reach, but back to back I could notice the difference in trail. Good stuff

Transition Bikes 2018 - SBG First Ride - Aug. 24, 2017, 7 p.m.

The Hightower LT has a bloody slack STA with the fork at 160, I'm looking forward to the Sentinel review.  The geo isn't earth shattering like a Geometron, but it's heading in the right direction...

2 Pack Options: One Back and One Hip - June 16, 2017, 10:03 a.m.

If you use a bottle in your frame, I highly recommend From High Above hips packs.  I have his original and the latest version (which has a bottle holder).  They fit incredibly, very low profile, and the strapping is superb.  I've have a Camelback Hydration hip pack in the past, and while I don't really have any issues with the strapping coming loose, the weight of 1.5L of water is too much in such a small package.  For me it overhangs a bit too much and will bounce a bit which causes it to ride up off my boney hips....then it really bounces haha

2017 Specialized S-Works Enduro 29 - May 4, 2017, 11 p.m.

As somebody that has been through proprietary low spoke count wheels (SRAM, Easton etc).  They are great initially- light (obviously--low spoke count!), stiff and lively.  But IF you lose a spoke charging in harsh terrain, good luck. From experience, all it takes is one spoke to go to weaken the wheel....

Too bad Canada just gets the Jelly Belly edition, black looks great! And you don't even need to be asking for SRAM Ultimates Perry, just the RSCs would suffice:-)  Great write up!

Nate Hills Goes Intercontinental - Feb. 26, 2017, 10:34 p.m.

Following BC Enduro Series Ted Morton, with a short Megan Rose cameo 😉

Fatness Goals - Feb. 6, 2017, 10:55 a.m.

Great piece Andrew. Jason hit the nail on the head; "pack a snack, not pounds". Which probably should include avoid post ride pub every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night in the summer 😎

Raceface Next SL G4 Crank Review - Jan. 23, 2017, 9:45 a.m.

That's the first time I've heard 'rotating weight' used when describing crank arms. 😎
