Yesterday I was getting set to ride down Dale's/Forever After and guy on e-bike is zooming UP Dale's! WTF, really, REALLY bad idea, dude, even if it was a Monday morning.
Had I started riding down a few minutes earlier....
The small trees cut down are all along the creek bed/gravelly rut, so it doesn't look like a fire break. I had talked to the builders on the Dempsey Connector a couple months ago, and they had said the plan was to eventually have the trail come out at the level of the parking lot. There would have to be some zig zag climbing, and there's a cliffy area that's in the way. I hope the plan is to also make a safe, mellow-ish exit to Coleman or Mill Street - it would be nice way to finish when taking kids or intermediate rider friends on Expresso.
Anyone with more info?
Bit of mush on road at top, 7th all clear.
But hey, what's happening with that gravelly rut that ends by the sketchy house on Coleman? And what is the story on that house? This week a lot of trees and brush were cut on the left side, so seems that getting ready to do some work on it.
I am loving the Dempsey connector, now just finish rides off on the trail, never have to go down to Braemar or Dempsey.
Skinned up to 5th, skied Crinkum, Bobsled, today. So.Much.Fun! One patch of dirt on one of the lower corners on Bobsled you need to watch for. Crazy windy in there late afternoon though, snow and branches coming down. Snow will be still be good tomorrow. First ski descent of Mountain Highway to Mill street too, just stayed along the edge. A memorable first for us!
One thing that is confusing is why new trails have been built on CMHC land. I thought the builders and associations were working with the land owners. Is this not the case?
Wondering this too…not just regarding new trails, but any old trails too, agreement must have been there somehow for the the past 20 ish years.
Quote from CMHC on her FB page:
" Hi Monica. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Blair Rifle Range is jointly owned by CMHC and the B.C. Province. We were recently made aware of trail building activity. While we are not aware of any authorization given for trail building within CMHC land, park authorities have authorized trail building in nearby parks subject to permits and monitoring. Unauthorized trails are often blocked.
We are currently working with neighbouring parks on a co-ordinated approach to managing the use of CMHC land, which is expected to be in place later this year."
How could CHMC only become "recently aware of trail building activity"? It's been going on for how many years, obviously with some approval or sanction. I thought a co-ordinated approach has been in place. More info please, CMHC!
Also, if it's only the Blair Rifle Range that's the concern, why are all trails on CMHC land sign-posted?
Hey, I was riding up Griffin Saturday afternoon and met a woman whose dog had got spooked and disappeared below the the lower part of Upper Griffin. If anyone has seen a Lab/Brittany Spaniel cross, and answers to "LEX" let me know.
