NSMB - 2015 – Mountain Bike Thread (full suspension)

New machine for this year - in search of the elusive quiver of one.

Damn that thing is the sexys. Starting to suss out a bike for the riding season and definitely have my eyes on the new Transition range, just wish I hadn't spent so much money here in the winter.

That Patrol 1 price would be a lot easier to stomach if I was back in Australia on my old wages haha.

A great day for a hike...

Damn the forest is looking lush, I'm about ready for this shitty snow to melt off now and find myself a new bike over here too!

This thread should become a regular update

Only places that seem to be working right now are up north and in Japan.

Yeah my buddy is instructing in Niseko this season, I had to unfollow his fb page. The updates were making me too sad..

Are those snow pics from Fernie area this winter?

They might be, we had glimmers of a good snowfall early. January has been a sad state of affairs though, I'm thinking of even throwing in the liftie job and going back to carpentry. The shit pay loses its appeal when there isn't any powder to make up for it.

I moved here to Fernie just over 4 months ago. Having made the move from Sydney, Aus to here you can say it was a hell of a lifestyle change. But its definitely good fun and the people in town keep it worthwhile whilst we are in a bit of a snow slump.

Apparently the summers here are awesome, biking and fishing will definitely be taking up my time!

Which BC mountain to check out?

I wouldn't recommend a trip over to Fernie just yet, we had +6 degrees today in town, yesterday from all accounts was almost spring riding conditions and several lifts are currently closed due to lack of people, lack of snow down low on the resort and some maintenance issues on another lift.

You can still find some fun pow pockets but its most certainly early season conditions here bud.

NHL 2014-2015 Canucks Rebuild Year

Yep It has been great to see a bit of fire in the belly once again. Especially given I am living with two Leafs fan room mates :D

How long until this shit is rampant in Canada?

creating proper social housing that is not in the shittiest neighbourhoods in town

They tried that in Australia, all it led to was good areas becoming good areas with a cancerous growth smack bang in the middle of it, we had an area not 5 mins drive from my house where there were $1.5m homes and then one or two streets along there was housing commission dwellings. Which just ended in the $1.5m homes losing value and crime spreading out from the HC.

GMC Canyon VS Toyota Tacoma.

the hilux diesel in aus isnt amazing on fuel.

im not sure why that motor isnt offered here though.

Compared to the 4.0L V6 in the hilux it is quite a bit better though. I was a steady driver and would only ever get a maximum of 430 kilometres to a full 70L tank.

What is amazing is the Volkswagon Amarok. That thing gets over 1000 kilometres to a tank any day of the week in the diesel. Damn pricey up front though!

it's here!!!

Damn, thats awesome. We have had snow at the tops of some of the surrounding mountains here over the last 2 weeks but not enough to hold, basically it melts or washes away within a few days.

We did have freezing rain tonight though which is somewhat promising I guess. Definitely ready for the snow to start falling!

Gunman (men?) in Parliment hill

I know given I'm not even Canadian that my opinion really doesn't mean much, but I think you all need to take a step back from throwing barbs at each other.

A family lost a son today, and your country lost what seems like a good man who was willing to give his time to not only serve in the armed forces but also took part in guarding the memorial of the unknown soldier.

So maybe quit the shit and just wait for the facts to come out hey.

To answer Tacklebox's question….

Some military facilities are secure…Camp Wainwright for example. To get on base one had to check in at the gate and provide ID. That was the only way in or out. At least back in 94. Can't recall if Chilliwack was the same CFB Kingston is a much more open base. That was a bit of a shocker in 2007.

A lot of defence bases in Australia were fairly lax on security as well. Generally using private security companies for patrolling and gate security.

I can't find anywhere that is actually saying the reservist passed away, they redacted the statement on the news pretty quickly, apparently was a mix up on social media reports.
