Thought id bump this back to the top rather than a new thread.
So I'm hitting up the West coast trail in mid June and am starting to look around for some new gear.
Any recommendations on packs - brands, sizes, what type of boot to look at, sleeping bags etc.
Doing the hike with a friend who is pretty knowledgable on hiking gear for back in Australia's conditions, but looking for different opinions from people more from the area as well.
Some awesome pics in here guys! Looking forward to getting over to the Island in June, I've reserved my spot on the West Coast trail with a friend.
Yes I am pumped. Matt Damon is Jason Bourne to me so I'm glad they didn't replace him. Jeremey Renner is good, but I don't think he can carry a movie really, and the Bourne story is far more interesting than Cross' IMO.
One punch from the trailer is awesome.
Oh man that punch. Super pumped for this film. As has already been said, Matt Damon is the Bourne series, so I am really stoked he is back!
They are fighting adherents of heretical Shiite Islam (no pun intended), the Houthis. And where there's Houthis, there's gonna be Blowfish.
Haha yes! :clap::clap:
That thing is dope ^
I worked with a guy that was running a super low static dropped kombi a few years ago. He drove it daily to work back in Sydney. Ended up at a chiro getting his back fixed up because of the shitty roads haha..
I'd skip RRTI personally, not worthy of the popularity it seemingly has. better to head out of rainbow park, hang a left on west side road, then hit the trail to the right almost immediately, climb that to the bottom of danimal north, head up the bottom of DN and look for a new trail on the left called hotdog alley, follow that to Scotia Creek, go right up the service road and up to Stonebridge drive, then you can do any number of rad rides that will dump you back in the Rainbow park vicinity that are way better than RRTI
It's like a history lesson of sorts riding it though. I only ever hit it twice back in 2012 when I was last there, and I certainly didn't regret it.
Happy with my 661 Core Saver without breaking the bank. Picked it up for $95. Fits well and doesn't ride up. The lower elasticized waist/kidney strap has lots of room for adjust and you can actually wrap a tube around your waist just above the strap and you don't even know it's there. Micro-pump in the pocket and you're golden. Sounds weird, but it works.
you can snap off the upper two spine guards as well if you're running a neck protector.
Yeah I have been rocking this one for a few years now as well. It has saved me a few times but I did have an over the bars, straight on to the back crash in the park which left me with a broken rib. Although who is to say it didn't save me from a worse injury.
It's comfortable though, doesn't ride up on your body too much.
wow, all this sunny weather lately has been great huh?
well, not so fast. drought in bc you say?
It has been crazy how quick the snowpack melted here. There is only a small amount left at the top of the resort and a bit up on top of the Three Sisters which is the highest peak around Fernie.
The A-frame ladder over the stump predates the bike park, so we're probably going to try and keep it. I ride it as often as not.
The woodwork needs new stringers, new footings, new decking. It's just old and worn.
Why does everyone call us "they".
Man I am glad to hear its getting fixed up rather than just decommissioned. Although its been almost 3 years since I last rode the bike park, Crack addict was great fun to hit up!
I can't say I have ever had a problem riding with a pack. I guess growing up riding in Australian summers with a hydration pack on all the time just got me used to it.
My standard riding carry round is 2L of water, tube, pump, levers, bike tool and bear spray. Depending on what we are riding I will then have some bars/gel blocks stashed in as well. I'm certainly not doing 40km epics or anything like that though, still working up to that level of distance riding around here.
no , not quite what I had in mind dunc' :lol:
I'm thinking ill equipped , unfit , unprepared , etc .
it would be a tough call to make , and as I stated , I'm seen some pretty unlikely cases make it to the top , just so they could buy their way down .
we don't screen clients to ride the peak chair very often but when we do , a surprising number are actually happy to have someone tell them that the conditions are not good or that they don't appear to be equipped for the task .
:grinno::grinno:
I was a Polar Peak lifty here at Fernie this winter, the handful of times I bluntly told someone they weren't getting on the chair definitely brought the humour for me and anger from them. It really seems people don't like to be told no, even when it can be because we are trying to save you from injury.
i have a pair of the 2fo's in size 48 which i had to special order of course. i love them. going back to flats and couldn't stand my 5.10 impacts. too boxy and a bit short, hot and bulky. the spec shoes are awesome. fairly stiff, great to walk in, excellent fit for my mid volume foot. i adjust the fit somewhat with different footbeds. they are just long enough, any shorter wouldn't work. look good and very rubbery and functional. no leather. they are excellent in the wet. even the laces are excellent. the ONLY thing i don't love is the inner fabric is quite coarse. they made these shoes to be both light and to absorb very little water (unlike the pure sponges that are impacts) and they did so by making the lining fabric mesh like. i have had to put a piece of tape in one shoe to smooth it out where it wraps around the top of my foot when tightened down. they also have few seams and are simply and sturdily made. very happy with them so far.
This is just what one wants to read the afternoon after just purchasing a new pair of impacts :D :D
This. I was pretty saddened to wake up Sunday morning to hear this happened 2 min from my place.
There was a small element in town you could tell was there just to stir it up.
Yeah, I spent a summer living just above Showcase in the lower village, there were certainly times that certain elements of society would congregate along the village walk and try cause trouble. Thankfully they seemed to mostly piss off by the winter time..
