Dog Grief

My first dog and cat made it to 18 1/2 and 19 respectively. I was 3 years old when Mum and Dad got them for me and they passed away within 6 months of each other. That afternoon in the vet when we put Toby my dog down will stay with me especially as one of the saddest moments of my life.

There really is something amazing about the bond you can have with an animal. Just try remember all the good times with them bud! That's all ya can do

rossland/trail/castlegar - the kootenays - for living

Living in Fernie is something else.

No complaints from me here either. That said I plan on moving away from Fernie after this winter. But ill be heading back to the southern hemisphere at this point.

The Decline of Camping ....

lots of free forest rec sites out there, used a couple this weekend up in the Chilcotin

Spent the last few weeks round the island and lower BC hitting up plenty of free rec sites. Had to rumble the old dodge caravan down some rough roads to get to some, but man. We had some absolute beauty spots all to ourselves!

Mass shooting in Sooke

We had actually just pulled into Sooke when this shooting happened. Had the police and ambulance fly past us at the pub we were standing in. Seemed pretty out of place for the small town it felt like!

Enough politics and bickering already..

Anyone got some cheeky tips for cheap camping spots in the Tofino area? Those campground prices are brutal haha!

Well unfortunately it seems our west coast trail hike will have to be postponed, Jo had a bit of a spill biking yesterday afternoon with me and snapped her collarbone. 3 weeks out from our start date means no time for it to heal enough to take a pack.

She is going to have to figure out her finances and work capabilities to see if we could at least make the road trip.

Pretty bummed to say the least, especially as I had been the driving force trying to get her into the biking too.

I would suggest doing it bamfield to port renfrew, by the time youre done you got more options for food in renfrew than you do bamfield.

Yep, thats what we booked in. We only just kinda realised how long all the driving round the island takes too haha, coming from two Australian's who are used to long drive, we just looked at the map and figured it was all small :D Rookies.

There's a tonne to see over here for sure! Been here almost 2 years now and still haven't done all the peaks just around Fernie yet.

Almost at a month countdown to Wct, I am that pumped to see the ocean again!

School Me On Hiking Gear

Little under 2 months till we start. Got a Msr hubba hubba coming from Mec, just bought a new Osprey Atmos 65 AG today, some Scarpa boots last week and a Thermarest neoair trekker.

All very exciting, but damn my wallet hurts haha.

"It Works"

There's a local buy and sell page here in the Elk valley that whilst great for picking up some solid bargains, is also full to the brim with fucking housewives spruiking their moronic little package deals and shit.

Doesn't annoy me at all, I swear.

not looking good...

Damn jealous, it has been a week of rain to well over mid mountain here. Just went up for a hopeful arvo slush day and it was bullet proof ice for the most part. 1 run down and we were on our way home again.

Looking very bare around the valley now.

let's get shallow for a minute (fashion jeans thread...)

I will admit to owning some tsubi jeans ($450 a pair i think) back in the day when the skinny jeans on fellas was a trend. That said, given I am actually skinny, to me they were just well fitting jeans :D

Screw expensive clothes these days though, unless its useful for things I want to do outside.

Osprey packs also work well for bike packing if you are into that sort of thing, my wife and I, along with our friends we bike pack with all use Osprey packs.

For sleeping bags we've been using North Face.

For tent we have Big Agnus.

For stove, pot and bowl we use Jetboil.

For water treatment we use Sawyer.

Which sawyer system have you been using bud? I've been looking at the mini system which should be sufficient for two of us.
