Land Pimps: Lock in fixed or stay variable? NTSFW

We were going to pay It off this summer, but we might let It ride for a final 5 with some lump sums to pay It off sooner.

We've had good luck with variable rate mortgages and accelerated payments.

All done MaddAddam. That was a good trilogy.

I'm going off books for a little while. I need to do something that doesn't require thinking. Hello Netflix!

Totally missed that Richard K Morgan had put out The Dark Defiles, so I jumped on that after reading Atwood's The Year of the Flood. Morgan did such a great job on that series. Black Man [a.k.a. Thirteen] is my favourite of his.

Next up, MaddAddam, the third book in Atwood's O[HTML_REMOVED]C trilogy.

I had never heard of Oryx and Crake before my wife read it and started calling our cat a rakunk earlier this year. Pretty much zero hype for me. I thought it held up pretty well in the "dystopian future" area, against books from William Gibson and Richard K Morgan.

Malazan actually comes in at over 11,000 pages. It's epic - in scope, length, breadth, # and diversity of characters. Somehow, it's less convoluted than 5,000 pages of Song of Ice and Fire [GoT]. The byline should be: "Get comfy, you're going to be here for a while".

I really enjoyed Joe Abercrombie's stuff, although that Half a King was a bit of a letdown. Great characters, especially Ninefingers, Glokta, and Shivers.

Just finished Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood. Wow. An excellent read. Moving on to The Year of the Flood, and MaddAddam.

I Am Pilgrim was decent. Way too much foreshadowing! The number of times the protagonist says he made a mistake, which then turns out to be an inconsequential plot twist 10 pages later, is ridiculous. Overall, well plotted and paced, much more Ludlum than LeCarre.

Whipped through the 4 James SA Corey books. Y'all were correct, book 3 dragged. Amos and Bobbie should hook up and make some sort of super kill baby. The authors have signed a deal for 5 more books, so we'll start to see new stuff late this year or early next.

For a change of pace, I'll check I Am Pilgrim.

7 months until the last Dagger and Coin book comes out, so I'll need to find something else to read in the meantime. The financial aspect of the series is kinda neat, like a banal kind of magic. I predict rampant inflation.

Custom dress shirts

For shirts and pants, Modern Tailor was a big step up in terms of quality from stuff like Indochino, Banana Republic, or other mid-range stores. Huge selection of fabrics, lots of customization on cuffs, collar, linings, buttons, etc. I have 20 dress shirts [100% cotton, most are 2-ply] and 4 pants. Recommended, would buy again.

The two suits I got from Indochino lasted maybe 10 wears before the jacket pockets blew out and the fabric bagged at the knees and elbows. The Boss suits weren't a lot better - they look good on the rack and for the first few wears, but look a little lived in after about a year, yet are 3-4 times the price. I don't wear suits very often anymore, so I got a nice one at Harry Rosen and also picked up a blazer from the same brand [Canali] and had them tweaked a little. I also managed to find a casual Armani jacket on clearance which has worn like iron and looks great.

TL, DR: Italian jackets and suits rule, custom shirts from China also rule

I read all the GoT books, then I picked up the Dagger and Coin series by Daniel Abraham. Any recommendations from you fantasy guys? Its usually not my thing, so if its TOO out there, I'll likely lose interest…preferably something that is a series.

Okay, I'm going to try the Dagger and Coin series by Daniel Abraham. I hold you personally responsible if it sucks. ;)
