Been a while, hope everyone here is doing well.

Anyway, headed to whistler in the next month, never been before. Looking for some recommendations. Thinking I will be in whistler for 4 days and then probably cruise around Vancouver for a couple more.

I am not huge in to skiing (but will probably go 2 days), so wondering if anyone has any guides they could recommend for maybe some ice/rock climbing in the area? Or other activities?

Some good restaurants? (bringing the lady)

I hate bugs, so not a huge fan of tarps, although they're super light.

I also don't really like one man tents, considering I often use them for hunting and need to fit that stuff in there with me when I am out.

Used to use an old Eureka! 3 man tent, but it was heavy… Just picked up one of these, they are soemthing like 2.5lbs, not bad for a two man.

Grew up on Maui so I will share some of my thoughts…

Hang out on the north shore some, if there are waves baldwin beach is awesome, or watch the surfers at Ho'okipa. Some great food in paia at the fish market, and they just opened a location in kihei as well. If you go out to hana, take the short hike at the national park up to the waterfall and check out the seven sacred pools. If you feel really adventurous hike the bamboo forest on the way to hana, its a pretty cool spot.

If you want to ride bikes rent one from crater cycles and check out the makawao forest reserve. Hiking the crater is awesome as well.

I'd def. try to go sail or snorkel too. If you just want to drive somewhere and snorkel the Ahihi Kinau reserve has great snorkeling (out past makena).

Try to eat some local food, theres a hole int he wall place by the airport that I love, Koko Ichiban Ya. I usually avoid Lahaina, but front street can be cool to check out.

just picked up the microsoft surface pro 3. pretty impressed with it so far, and i have been a die hard aapl fanboi for a long time but with school and work i have been doing a lot of financial modeling in excel and the loss of short cut efficiency i was facing by using my mac drove me to buy this. its pretty sweet, very powerful, and its actually quite asthetically pleasing.

So even though a large portion of the world's mining companies are listed on the TSX, does not mean they are canadian. for instance, Barrick one of the largest gold producers in the world is listed on the TSX, but they are located in Colorado. Vale which bought out Inco which was the main producer of nickel in sudbury is from Brasil. I'm not saying Canadian companies are free of fault, no one is. i don't think that you have to look very far back into our history to know that, Sudbury was and is still a mess and that was Canadian operated on our own soil. but that was the technology of that day and era. i'm not saying there aren't sketchy fuckers out there today that get away with stuff that you're embarrassed as a nation about. but on average, if you work with, talk to, live in the places around the world where each of these companies operate, you realize there is a significant cultural difference.

Barrick is headquartered in Toronto, Newmont is in Colorado. A large portion, i.e. the majority of mining companies are listed on the TSX, and headquartered in Canada. Granted the three largest are based elsewhere (glencore, Rio Tinto, BHP…)

I personally have no issue with teaching kids abstinence. Makes sense when taught in conjunction with additional sexual education. This is usually referred to as 'Abstinence Plus' education.

I have an issue with 'Abstinence ONLY' education, which is being promoted in the poorer southern states by the far Christian Right. They are finding higher incidences of teen pregnancy and STIs because teens aren't being taught that IF they decide to have sex, here's how to have safe sex, or that you can contract and STD by giving oral sex, having anal sex…etc, they are simply just taught not to have any kind of sex, period.
