Highschool Principals name was Richard(Dick) Burns.

LOL. When we bought our house in N Van, the previous 'owner' of our phone number was Richaed (Dick) Burns. We'd get phone calls all the time for him. When I was buying a lawn mower at Sears in Cap Mall, I gave the cashier my phone number and she said "Dick Burns?", I was like WTF?

*Official 2010/2011 Fromme Snow Line Thread*

got up to Espresso today. Top of the trail was covered in snow/ ice. I laid first tracks. Most of the wood was not ridable but the lower sections were awesome. Snow starts to get a bit hard to pedal in around Ladies/ Pipeline.

Got up to Espresso Saturday afternoon. Snow was softer than I expected, mabe 5cm under the canopy. Had a very low threshold of going going from grip to slip, but the stuff that was grippy was great. Most of the lower woodwork was slow due to the heaviness of the snow. By the time you got down to the wood rollercoaster it was a lot faster and started to clear.

Good ride, just a bit unpredictable on the upper half of the trail.

Turbo Encabulator

Sounds similar to the old retro encabulator

Looks like that one is naturally aspirated though.

Decline of maritime empires

Pretty cool visualization. I wish this was around when I took history. I may have actually been interested.

Tsawwassen is the worst place in the lower mainland.

the moisture in the air cools adiabatically as it rises in elevation, condenses, and falls as rain

Saturated adiabatic lapse rate FTW

NV Precipitation (edit- just noticed this link is for Vancouver Harbour):
Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec
Monthly rainfall (mm) 144 174 153 117 87 70 49 48 71 132 220 211
Annual average: 1474
http://www.theweathernetwork.com/statistics/CL1108446/cabc0205

Delta Precipitation:
Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec
Monthly rainfall (mm) 110 85 77 64 50 44 31 32 42 86 141 125
Annual average: 886
http://www.theweathernetwork.com/statistics/summary/cl1102425/cabc0079

Using the 2 averages, Delta only gets 60% of the rain NV does.

That's what the government wants you to believe.

An open letter against online retailers

Suspension fork or frame? No way. I want to be able to go down the LBS where I purchased some faulty stuff and rant at them to get it fixed or replaced.

Not the case with Marzocchi forks. Naz and the crew take care of warranty issues right on the Shore and do it right. I have no worries about buying a Marzocchi fork/shock online.

It's a shift that many industries face. If you can no longer compete on price you have to compete in others ways, like providing good service too.

I've had good experiences with LBS' and bad ones. I don't mind paying more in the LBS for products if they provide good service. What annoys me is when you're loyal to a shop and spend a lot of money there and they still want to charge you full price on everything you buy over time. As a loyal customer, it would be nice to have them offer some kind of discount if you've bought several thousand dollars of merchandise off them over several years at full price. I'm not talking about making them lose money and they don't have to do it all the time, but the gesture of offering a bit of a price break on some items when they know you've been supporting them for several years matched with good service goes a long way.

That's a statistic I was quite surprised by in 1st year meteorology. I think growing up in North Van gave me a very skewed view of what's "normal" for precipitation.

I grew up in Tsawwassen and now live in North Van - I notice the difference!

It is a pretty isolated place but grew up doing a lot of sailing, fishing and windsurfing. Perfect spot for it. Mountain biking, well, not so much.

It's ugly, wet and always miserable.

It gets 1/3 the rain of North Van and has some decent beaches. Not that bad.

Needs a mountain or two though.
