Any car salesmen here?

The last time I was buying, a guy at the North Shore Automall wasn't even going to tell me his "best price" until I "committed" by making a down payment. I said was that wasn't going to happen until I knew the price, and he basically shrugged and said "have a nice day".

Same thing happened to me last fall at Richmond Auto Mall. Took a vehicle for a test drive, back to the dealership and told the salesman I wanted to talk numbers. They said they wouldn't unless I was "committed" to buy. I did a WTF look, got up and left.

How do I know unless I know the price?

Used X3? Is it still under warranty? If not, you might want want to budget some additional $$ for repairs.

2017 Fromme Trail Conditions Thread

Kirkford is so fun right now! Same with roadside attraction. Seems funny even typing that but it's true. Lol

All the snow rollers and berms that have built up make some of the trails even more fun than they are in normal conditions.

Rode it today and had a blast! Almost sad to see the snow go.

been contemplating an entry level Islay. this or laphroaig qc or??

Laphroaig QC is my go-to Islay. It's gotten a bit more expensive in the last couple of years but still well worth it.

I'm a big fan of Laphroaig and have bought a couple of the Kilchomens recently and been well impressed. Highly recommended if you like Islay whiskey.

The Great Salt Famine of 2017

Bought a bunch of salt at iranian tire two days ago. Skids of the stuff.

Same here. Walked into Crappy Tire on Main St in N Van last weekend for something completely unrelated and saw a couple skids of salt. Only had half a bag at home so I picked up an extra bag. Then all of a sudden I hear of this epic shortage.

2016 BC Property Assessment

It doesn't equal rate hikes… That depends on your city's budget and your percentage of it.

True, but it pushed me over the eligibility for the home owners grant.

2016 BC Property Assessment

2016 property assessments are out. My place in North Van is up almost 40% in one year.

I guess I can kiss the home owners grant goodbye :swearing:

Subaru Mechanic

I have an ’07 Outback that I am planning on selling. Recently found out it is leaking oil from the head gasket (seems to be a not-so-uncommon occurrence on NA 2.5 subies). Anyone have a recommendation for a Subaru mechanic on the North Shore? Last thread I found was from 2006.

It’s a pretty big job that’s mostly labour. Another option I am considering is selling it as a project car. Think there may be people out there interested in buying it at a discount and making it a project to either keep or resell and make a few $$? Its pretty low mileage (127K) and in good shape otherwise.

New Bike Time! Giant Reign or Commencal Meta V4?

If you are going to be doing "XC'ish" laps, the Reign may not be your best bet. She's long, low and slack. Every time I do technical climbs, I'm striking pedals and really having to manage tight turns. She goes like hell pointed down though.

I would likely go the route that Rideitall is recommending - beef up the Trance and see if it fits the need

any giant reign owners (2015)

Also, my Reign loves 4 bottomless rings in the Monarch. I'm 210lbs and I was struggling with finding that sweet spot between small bump and bottom out. 4 rings in there and the whole bike is happier. I feel like I get less deflection because the wheel is striking things in its travel, compared with always being at the bottom on a hit.

Cheap and easy mod that made a real difference in the ride of my Reign.

Agree 100%. Had the shock serviced and tuned by Fluid Function. Based on my weight (~215) they added 4 spacers to it and completely changed the way I ride the bike. Went from the back end feeling rather numb to really progressive.

I had it once but it hasn't been a problem since.

Same here

Helmets are overrated?

With speed comes increased chances of smashing your melon.

In my experience, most crashes I've had are at low speed, when I'm not paying enough attention to what I'm doing. At high speed, I'm processing everything.

recommend me a summer camp for kids...

We've had our daughter ar Camp Summit the last couple of years and she's loved it. We might start looking into other camps for some thing different going forward but they have provided a great experience for her - especially at the the younger years ( 5 and 6)
